I Ride: 2006 R6S, 2003 YZ250 | Feeler: FS 2003 YZ250 no title
Hey folks, just trying to get a feel for interests around this area on my 2003 yz250. I have the certificate of origin but having trouble contacting everyone on it for releases since nobody has titled it before. Bike has FMF gold pipe, FMF titanium 2 silencer, ASV levers, pro taper fat bars with pillow top grips, new front rim and sprockets in great shape. N-style graphics in decent condition and n-style grip seat. Also new brake pads. That's all i can think of right now, pipe has dent in the right side but doesn't effect anything. Right front fork has very slow leak but i have new seals and fluid to fix it. Bike runs great! Like i said i'm just trying to get a feel to see if anyone would be interested in it if i can't get this title worked out. I'm located on Mountain Home AFB, call or text 850-867-6530 or email mwhitfield@gmail.com, looking to get $1700 firm. Let me know what ya think. |

I have just one question. How the hell does a bike 7 years old never get registered or titled? Nice bike but um it has no title and for the headache of titling it I would think that $1700 firm is too high.

Are you able to get in touch with the original purchaser? the one on the origin? If so, offer to pay the taxes if they get the bike titled. I had to do that same thing with my dirt bike. Luckily I knew the original owners, they had purchased it new for a track only bike and never had to title it. It cost me 300 and change for taxes and they went down to dmv to take care of it. All you have to do is pretend like the other owners never existed. otherwise they will all cause more confusion because the taxes need to be paid by each purchaser.

It's actually all on the person who sold it to me, he's the only one who has to get it titled, but need letters from the first. And he has stopped answering my calls funny enough.

I was just saying if you had a way to contact the person on the cert of origin, then see if they would title it.

If I understand the officer that pulled Dale and I over last year, A bike without a title can be impounded indefinatly. The words "No title" and "firm" dont belong anywhere near eachother. People are giving away bikes that come with title, manuals, extra parts and receipts for maintenance.

Yeah i'd like to see these bikes being given away you speak of. And i believe you heard wrong from the officer. Most other states don't require an off road sticker or plate of any kind for OHV's, therefor nobody applies for a title. Not to mention the idaho law requiring it didn't come into effect until 2009, you think everyone before 2009 titled their bikes? Lol. Idaho has laws and fees on everything they can. Here's a little bit of what i'm talking about, read how many people in these other states say all they have is bill of sale. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=454161 Thanks for your input though.

All I did on my dirt bike to get it titled was to send a certified letter to the last known address of the guy that used to have the title. He can either sign a power of attorney if he is still at that address. Or if he doesn't live there still the letter will come back to you and then you take the sealed certified letter to the county. They will give you a conditional title. Which means in 5 years if someone comes back saying that the bike was stolen, then the county will attempt to impound the bike and give back to the original owner. Not as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

You have to have a valid tittle, or COO. The thing that gets everyone is-- No tittle, No own, Can't sell. Because Youi don't own it You can't sell it. That's a felony If You have a paper trail through everyone that has no breaks in it. i.e. bills of sale and stuff. she may be able to do a multiple transfer. all You have to pay is all the transfer fees, and your title fee, and sales tax on what You spent. they will then get ahold of all other parties and send them a tax bill.

Yeah that's what i'm hoping for Liteone, but the only break in the paper trail i forsee is the original owner who bought it from a dealer in 2003, he lived in colorado. I found 1 dude with that name on facebook but no reply from him. 99% chance he thinks i'm a weirdo and deleted my message Lol.

I Ride: 2007 YZFR1 | www.Craigslist.com among other for sale sites is where...... Bikes values being at an alltime low is news to you? Were in a recession in case you were unaware of that as well. We dont have to play the im right your wrong game. That bike wont sell for more than 1000.00 (unless you get a title) End of story |

After reading the other posts you have gotten from other members since my original post. I change my previous statement. Im right Take the bike to Nebreska where it still may have a value without a title. That bike is worth the sum of its parts and the scrap value of the frame. |

I Ride: 09 R1 | They will only go after previous owners in the state of Idaho. Had to go thru the same issue with a bike w/ title from california in which multiple "sellers" signed the title who were not listed as the owner on the title. Idaho just wants the sales tax from any sales w/in the state. It was a pain in the a$$ with title in hand... it will be quite a chore w/o a title. I think you have to bond the bike for 1.5 times its value for 3 years or some crap like that. It never seemed to be worth the hassle for me so I stay away from any vehicle w/o a clean and clear title in hand.

I've been in touch with the right people from boise. From the sounds of it the people at the mountain home DMV are wrong/misinformed. I have already contacted all of the people on the certificate of origin and am expecting the completed documents from them any day now. With the releases signed i will be able to submit for a complete title in my name next week and the state will worry about the rest. If all goes as planned i'll be riding by next weekend, or whenever I get my spark arrestor delivered.
