Do they guarantee anything for this $70/hr, and can they be trusted?

Guarantee was maybe a bad choice of words. I've been to various dyno shops in Seattle w/ both cars and bikes over the years, some good, some bad. I meant if they keep their equipment up to date, maintained for accurate readings, etc. One shop we went to in Kirkland basically "guaranteed" that using their equipment will net the best and most accurate results since they take care of their stuff, use a HUGE CFM fan as opposed to some WalMart floor fan, etc. Someone arranged another dyno event at another shop in Auburn (###thole town) and literally everyone complained and said they netted lower numbers vs other dyno shops they've used, not just the Kirkland on. Some shops may use old, outdated dyno's w/ potential software/hardware problems.

Does that answer your WTF Lynn?

I'm with Lynn, Don wouldn't let someone touch his bike if he thought they were idiots.

But we are talking about tuning a sportbike in Idaho.... You should of heard the responses I got when I called around asking to have my bike broke in on a dyno. DO WHAT TO YOUR NEW BIKE ON A DYNO?!?!? Then when I called the Salt Lake area Dynos the response was oh yeah we know exactly what you want.

I've met Don once @ the last meet and he's a very standup guy when we talked outside. I wasn't saying he'd recommend a bad place, I was asking a question.

I don't blame you for asking. I think you ask because you have experience tuning & know better than to just put your bike on anyones dyno.
Which is why I'd take mine out of state... No offense Idaho.

And that's why I asked about their "guarantee", if they can be trusted, etc. I wasn't doubting Don, I've just never been to one here. I'm still trying to find an AWD dyno around here, but it seems one doesn't exist.

Salt Lake might have one & their altitude is so close to ours your bikes/cars will run virtually the same in Boise as they do there!

Damn it. I kinda thread jacked your thread Don... Sorry! Hey Everyone!!!! Go get your bikes tuned with Don!!!! There.... I feel better.

So what would be better for getting an AWD dyno done...higher elevation in SLC @ 4327 or Kirkland @ 14 when I'm going to be driving it in Boise 95% perfect of the time. I'm not having it tuned, I'm just wanting before/after numbers on a pre-VANOS intake manifold swap to post on my other forums. I would assume the lower elevation would net me higher numbers, and it's a shop I've used for tuning and dyno runs in the past on other vehicles.

I'd like to go just to watch. Where do you get it done at? I've used one dyno here in Boise and the shop has since been closed.

HAHA! I stand corrected. Or maybe 2000 feet isn't a lot for a bike? All I know is another bike tuner told me to match his jetting (2 stroke) because others from Boise found their bikes ran great with the same tuning as the tuning he was doing to bikes in SLC. When I matched his settings the bike ran perfect! Also, others at MMP have told me the same thing.

I was thinking of compared to say, San Fran, CA vs Idaho. Which now that I'm looking isn't much different than SLC vs Idaho.

I simply believed tuning in SLC worked well for Idaho because I've done it and it worked well & other racers have done it and works well for them. I never actually compared but now I'm a bit surprised that with a 2000ft difference the bikes run so well here after being tuned there. Who knew?!!?

Maybe other weather conditions like humidity & average temps are similar to Boise & that's why bikes seem to still run well in Boise after being tuned in SLC??

Maybe it's the pollen count, number of cell phone towers, politics, ice cream shops, temples, & number of gummy bears per sq mile

m5james, you're right that you'd likely net higher HP closer to sea level. But your before and after numbers will still basically be the same gap in either city.

Maybe it's running better here than SLC since the air is thicker, so it's like free boost

I have an idea!!! Tune your bike in SLC, then only ride in the mountains in Idaho to have the closest possible elevation! If you ride at bogus & lowman... you should be fine!

Every dyno will put out a different number. I just want my air fuel set right, I'm running rich as hell after installing the new exhaust. When it warms up I will take it back to big twin and see if I made any improvements over my 156hp run last year

156HP...nice numbers. I was happy when I finally broke 135HP, but I think I run a little rich as well. I've go through plugs like mad, and have even tried cheating the system by going to hotter plugs to keep them from fouling. Once the NOS kit is installed, I definately need to get the bike tuned up.

I'd still like to go to take in the smells and noises whenever you go.

When I called Big Twin two weeks ago they said the dyno would not be running until April.Think they wanted temps in the 70's.

Whoa now...that's something I'm going to have to Google. Is that where I use a washer or something on the plug to point it towards the intake valve more?

I've upgraded my charging system from an old style R/R to a newer style MOSFET R/R, along w/ wiring the coils directly to the battery instead of the rats nest of poorly made wiring on this bike. It's improved my charging, throttle response and reduced the low RPM to full throttle stumble I had. I have yet to check the plugs again before this season, but I'm prepared since I have a new set sitting on my shelf.

ok so i have done some talking with pro power performance and i am not real fond of the idea of leaving my bike there and trusting someone to be honest with the amount of time they actually spend on the bike tuning it. time to find a new place

Why don't you buy a datalogger and go into the tuning business?

I'm modding my bike to death this year. Dropping in the Lithium battery made me realize how much I love more power and less weight. This week I'm sorting the suspension for my lardy ass (finally!), with new springs and proper oil. Next I'm going for the widemouth venturis and oversized K&N Beast kit. My 12k service is coming up in May or June, so I figure it will be a great time to drop in high compression pistons or a 1080cc big bore kit. A dyno tune will be manditory to get the most out of it.

When I told Fred at Big Twin that I wanted to increase the power to weight ratio on my bike, he suggested a StairMaster. Serves me right I guess.

Stairmasters are an expensive upgrade.....I suggest $100 pair of jogging shoes and 5-600 less calories a day for the next lifetime.....oh and cut alcohol....i know they make funny cars run real fast off that ###t but all it does is make people real funny lookin.
