Flushing the cooling system questions

Is there an easy and quick way of flushing your coolant? I am changing to engine ice and it says that the system needs to be completely flushed. Just wondering if anyone has experience in this.

Any replies will be helpful

Well they hold more than you think have a good size bucket ready. I have only done it once and I will be doing it again saturday, I dont really know a good way to do it. I just pull the screw drain it put some water in it run it and repeat till it is clear.

Re: Flushing the cooling system questions

I think its as simple as AlxandrtheGr8 was saying. Except I know that my car needs to get its radiator flushed BAD! The temp gauge went in to the red and when i looked at the fluid...it was more like red tar. Thick red stuff at the very bottom. After 2 juggs of coolant it runs fine now but needs a serious flush, and as far as i know they do pressurized flushes and charge aroud $65. When in doubt, ask Hoz

Re: Flushing the cooling system questions

There are two kinds of flush for cars. One is a simple issue of forcing water through the system to purge any old coolant. The other involves running a chemical through the system to clean out any gunk. I think that this is the $65 option...
I have done the dump/refill/run/dump thing on my bike, but wonder if there is a way to connect a hose to the system to feed water in while the drain is open....

I just use the drain bolt and keep adding until it runs out clear as well.
Question though... why are you adding engine ice? If you want to ride on the track at all, you'll need to go with just water or a mixture of water and "Water Wetter."

A shop will do a pressurized flush but just draining it out yourself is a cheaper option. I actually pulled my hoses off the last time I was draining coolant. It gave me a chance to inspect them.

Re: Flushing the cooling system questions

Right now engine ice is supposed to be ama approved for most tracks, and it cools better than water wetter and exhibits a lower temp threshold.

I found this on engine ice's website.

Most every coolant product will work best when changed somewhat regularly?at minimum, we?d recommend once a year.

For racing applications, we actually recommend twice per year. The cleaner you can keep your cooling system and the fresher you can keep a fluid, the better it will perform.

There are no special requirements for using Engine Ice.

For any coolant and anytime you are changing coolant, we recommend a simple solution of distilled water and white distilled vinegar, both available at your local grocery store.

1. Mix the water/vinegar at 50/50

2. Fill system with the solution

3. Run engine until warm

4. Let cool

5. Drain

6. Run clear water through to rinse out vinegar.

7. Fill with coolant of choice.

This is the same as cleaning your coffee maker. The vinegar is acidic enough to clean out and contaminants and residual coolants, yet it won?t harm your seals and gaskets.

The AMA may have approved engine ice but Miller Motorsports Park (and most track that I know of) won't allow it.

Ok well I was misinformed, but I already bought it, plus I do actually want some sort of antifreeze in there, from what i read water wetter is not the best at that.

Water Wetter won't function as antifreeze at all so you're right there. Its a bit of an issue if you forget to change it out before winter -- I know of two people who made that mistake this winter but got lucky and didn't have any damage.
