I lost a shifter fork or something else in the tranny on my KX450. So now I am trying to find out who I can talk to about getting the cases split to have a peek at what happened. I have the knowledge but lack some of the tools to do this at home. Any recommendations as to who I could go to would be greatly appreciated.

Having anyone split your case is going to be rediculous. i did my 02 CRF 450 in my garage to replace the crank and as long as you do it standing up right and take pictures and mark where things go it's fairly simple. I did it by myself besides have a second hand on the other half of the case for the actual split. I don't know if anything is different on the KX's but on the Honda everything was slotted so it was rather idiot proof. I had a quote for replacing the crank at right around $1,000 not including parts and that was with the engine already out of the bike. I did the whole thing myself for the cost of the crank which was $250.

I got lucky turned out to be the tab on the shift shaft broke on the clutch side no need to dig into the tranny. Can't believe non of the debri got into the primary gear set while limping back to the truck stuck in 2nd gear.

But should still be able to figure it out. Either way I might be riding my friends rm140 tomorrow out at little gem. Depends on how things go.
