Unhappy Dead battery or Alt?

Hey guys. I have my 2000 VTR that keeps running out of battery.
Anyone have a sure fire plan to test to see if my battery or alternator is dead?

Thanks

I Ride: low and slow

if the battery is good, its either the stator or the rectifier I'd say to hell with it an do both.

So this is what I found out through some people.

The bike does not charge unless the RPM is up.
Increased RPM to 3000 and my volt meter reads 12.2 VDC when reading across the battery.

Take the the positive off the battery while running and if it dies then its the stator?
Took positive off the battery and it kept running..

Life span of a battery is like 2 years?
Never replaced my battery in bike, but owned bike less than a year.

Some one even said fuck it replace the battery and give it a shot because the stater never dies?
I have some thoughts on that.

See you tomorrow Dennis. What time you open up shop?

Typically over 3k rpm should show 13.5v plus... 12v at revs is usually a sign of not charging.

Hondas like the cbr900rr had rectifier troubles, which caused non-charging issues. The rectifier would overheat and become useless. Aftermarket rectifiers had larger heat sinks.

Not saying that is what the problem is, but certainly something to check. If replacing the battery be sure to get a quality Yuasa or one of the recently magazine-reviewed lithium batteries to save some weight.
