Once you change it yourself you'll wonder why you paid someone $60 to do it. I need to change the oil in my bike too, so if Bailey's doesn't work out let me know. It'll be sometime Saturday, just not sure when.

Havn't yu been working on this for the last few weeks? Do you have the oil, filter, drain pan, and tools at you place? This is NOT suzuki specific, but just general way to change your oil park the bike on stand so that is stand upright, best to do this with the bike cold as hot oil on your hands sucks, lay on the ground, look under your motor, there shoud be a large bolt looking thing just in teh middle, it is the drain plus, loosen it, ensure the pan is under and remove, all your oil will run out, pay attention to the oil color, glittery specs, white foam, rust floating on top are all signs of serious issues you want looked at right away, let bike sit for at least 30 min to let it all drip out, replace the plug. move the drip pan to under the filter, remove the filter, it you do not have a wrench, just poke a screwdriver in the side and turn to loosen, the filter will be full of oil so watch that. set waste off to the side. take a clean cloth and wipe the area around the filter clean. open the box with your filter and a jug of new oil, slowly pour new oil into the filter coating all the paper, this prevents blow out of the element, put a light coating of oil on the rubber seal, screw filter back on, tighten only hand tight, it will seal. open you filler cap on fill your oil. pay attention to the proper amout you are putting in, your book should say but most bikes also have it stampted on the side, when you get close, slow down and use your dipstick or sight glass to be full. put the cap back on the bike, start it, do not rev it, let is run for a min or so, recheck the oil level and fill if needed. now dispose of the waste per EPA regs and you are done. |

You can get a nice oil drain pan at Cycle Gear for about 6 bucks. Word of advice though. Make sure you replace your crush washer on your drain plug if you have one (or at least make sure there is still one on the plug - sometimes it is really hard to get them off). Also be VERY VERY CAREFUL not to overtighten your drain plug bolt. Generally the drain plugs are steal with a magnetic center, and your oil pan is aluminum. Steal and aluminum have completely different heating and cooling properties which actually works the threads on both slighty every time the bike is heated and cooled. This can cause them to be weakened on an older bike (usually the aluminum pan threads will give out). Anyways one of my old bikes was missing the crush washer which caused me to strip out the threads on the oil pan and I had to use a repair kit, which SUCKED A$$!! so be very careful otherwise you will end up with a mess Other than that it is so easy a jiffy lube attendant... i mean a monkey could do it |
