R&G Slider Installation

My largest fear with the installation of sliders that require cutting the plastic is that I will not cut in the correct place. I purchased a set of upper sliders for my Ape about a year and half ago and kept putting off the install because the part that I had to cut was carbon$$$fiber. I came across a how to on another forum and thought I would pass it on here. Brother Karl (CBRF2Old) was gracious enough to help with the install
Because the lowers would not fit on the bike with the slider mount (part that mounts to the frame) installed, we sighted with the laser, removed the slider mount, mounted the lower, marked where the laser hit, removed the lower, re-mounted the slider mount and then set about cutting the hole in the c/f larger and larger until the lower fit on over the slider mount. We had to make sure nothing got bumped in the process or all bet's were off. I recall remounting the right side slider mount and checking with the laser again and it was off by about an inch I thought I was gonna have a stroke because we had already drilled a starter hole . Karl reminded me that I might have moved the bike on the stands while retorqueing the mounts. I moved the bike back about an inch and everything lined up. PITA but came out to my satisfaction.

Re: R&G Slider Installation

I was wondering if you were going to post this up or not. I was going to if you didn't because it worked great!
Almost looks like a professional cut that hole. Too bad the pictures don't show all the fretting and worrying that went on before we put the rotozip to the CF...

Yeah, if there was a fretting emoticon, I would have worn it out

That worked out pretty sweet. Anytime you can involve a laser, its pretty sweet. Now if you can strap that laser to the head of an angry shark, you'll REALLY have something going!

We were pointing it at an angry shark, does that count?
