Re: Biker Bolt Pains

I think that's fixable.

Apply a lot of heat, and pound in a socket. Use an impact wrench to break it loose and remove. I have some security-hex sockets that might fit in there and hold on to the fastener.

Re: Biker Bolt Pains

I have a nice bolt extractor set that will pull that out aswell. These actually get hammered onto the head of the bolt and then use a socket to turn them off. Inside the socket the teeth bite into the head of the bolt as you loosen it. You can borrow them if you want to try them out.

Here is what they are: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...+Taps+%26+Dies

Re: Biker Bolt Pains

Those extractors look pretty cool, but I think the head of that bolt is recessed in the rotor (besides being low-profile).

would think absolute worse case scenario would be to drill the head off, then tree the threaded part out, all done!

Ya I agree but I think the most important thing you did wrong was JASON.

They are very handy. It is what I used to get the 2 bolts out on my rearset that hold the rear brake master cylinder in place. It seems Suzuki thought it would be a great idea to put red loctite on those two allen head bolts. The first one came off, but the second one became stripped. Bryan was nice enough to show me these extractors and they work very nicely. Then I ordered two more bolts, and the dumb girl at Carls ordered me the bolts for the fluid reservoir and not the master cylinder...... so I had to wait longer to finish off my rear set and brake line upgrades.

I will note that if you use those little pen style butane lighters, it helps getting the red loctite bolts out as it is a rather precise flame and only gets heat on the bolt.

even if the bolt is recessed you could still probably grab onto the top of it if it is dome shaped. I just glanced at the picture this morning while being half awake so I don't remember the shape of it.

Re: Biker Bolt Pains

Maybe I'm missing somthing, but why can't you just use a regular screw/bolt extractor?

http://www.irwin.com/irwin/consumer/...rwinProd100502

I'm sure they got the right size at Home Depot or Lowes

Re: Biker Bolt Pains

When red loctite is involved not much will help until you heat it up. Also those kinds of bolt extractors don't always work, but they might work once the tread lock is heated up.

Nope, as I said I was half awake and at work trying to multitask. As you can see I multitask as good as Microsoft's operating systems

BTW how is your bike coming along?

Re: Biker Bolt Pains

Well, LazyJ's bolts defeated me. We put a lot of heat on them, some valve grinding compound, and used an impact driver, but they didn't budge. I put an air tool on it, but that just busted my socket (cheap socket, though). A breaker bar was out of the question, because the fasteners were already stripped. I've got to respect the guy that removed two of them!

If it was my bike, I'd go nuts until I broke something expensive, but when it's somebody else's bike, I have to be more humble.

Sounts like it is time to drill it out. Use a bit slightly smaller than the shaft of the bolt. Lots of oil on the bit and drill it though. It should just break apart then.

tried this method...it was only partially succesfull....so...seeing as how i had ALREADY busted one drill bit in one of the bolts in the process i took a more logical approach and just killed atleast 2 birds with one stone...

basically at the end of this afternoon project.....I ended up welding a large 3/8 bolt to the bolts in the wheel....the heat from that not only melted the lock tight but i was also able to get some real wrenching power on the bolt.....needless to say,..i didnt need it since the lock tite was melted...but i still needed a way to get the damnbolts out so it all worked out...

I will post a picture of my little custom trinket that came from this project tomorrow.

Oh yes...and I ended up just re-threading all my threads just to make sure there wasnt any damn red lock tite left.... 8mmx125 thread....

all this for some damn blue paint...
