I Ride: 2006 "Cherry Pie" FZ1

My mini project.

Ok, just going to switch this one to my bike thread.

Fixing it up to how I want it now since it was so cheap and I have the money to spend. Wooo!

It will just be updated from the start till finish. Everything I need is on the way and just need to play the waiting game then throw it together.

List of things I need/want to do:

New levers - Done
New shifter
New paint/body work - Done (Thinking about a different headlight)
New gauges - Done (That sucked, never wanna do again)
New grips
New paint on the four black parts on the bike - Done for now
Clean up electrical and re-wrap - Done
Possibly some sliders, just need to see how they will fit onto this bike

Before

Nakie bike getting nakier

Roughed up the plastics, going to have the shop do the tank

Need to either weld a peg onto this or jimmy-rig something

This is getting replaced with the Trailtech Vapor gauges

Work is done as far as the paint situation... Rhino Lined another bike! I likes it...

Gauges changed (Took a loooong time!)

New levers. Others were both broken on the ends.

Paint is done for now, I would like a few more parts done like the switch boxes, headlight assembly and mirrors but that is for later.

are you talking about the entire gauge cluster, or just the internals? If its the cluster, that should be fairly easy, attached to the fairing stay and usually a cluster of wires that go into a connector.

Just one of the few things I wanna do to the bike.

Any help is appreciated.

The entire thing while using the existing wiring after cleaning it up a bit. I figured it would be easy but not sure as I have never done it.

If I can do it, anybody can. It's a little fussy, though. There's no such thing as plug-n-play. Trailtech makes a Vapor (not Veypor--different company) gauge kit for the SV, but it doesn't plug into the stock harness. You have to figure out the wiring yourself. Acewell and Koso are other popular alternatives.

If you want to get a little more in depth and want to invest the time http://www.translogicuk.com/micro-dash.htm
Same dash WSBK uses

Those look like nice gauges. The Mychron ones are popular with racers too, but it's a little hard to justify a $1500 Mychron on an $2000 bike.

And yes those are some extremely nice/cool gauges but I'll stick with simple and cheap for now. At least until I'm fat dumb and rich.

You can pick up new pegs for really cheap off of ebay and you should swap that giant headlight for a dual headlight off of a street triple

I kinda like the big headlight. At the moment I'm not too worried about it though. It is a thought, thanks for the suggestion!

Damnit, guess I didn't complete buying the levers off ebay so I had to re-order them. Hopefully they will be here by saturday!

Looks great Andrew! A lot less plastic to Rhino than the CBR.

Nice job. Do you have any pictures of the changes you made to the wiring?

Updated for the gauges. Took like 3 effing hours! Maybe a lil more...

Cider, on the wiring I just wiped it down and kinda packed it together just as long as it was good condition. No pictures though

I like working on bikes, except for the wiring/electrical system (gauges included).

Me too! We are one in the same, except I can't hold onto a bike for too long.

Love working on bikes, just wish it wasn't so tedious in some areas.

Grrrr. The Neutral indicator stopped working and I can't seem to find the wiring for it in the cluster. Pulled a wiring schem off an 03'. Hopefully they are the same. I can't find one for an 02!!!!

Pretty sure they are not the same. There are some good threads at svrider.com about wiring up the Vapor.

Pulled off a schem that is said to work. I'll see tomorrow. Going in early to work on it.

Let me know if you run into problems. I have the factory manual and could scan the wiring diagram from the back page (when I get home). To be honest, some of the information on svrider is more useful than the factory diagram.

Already have problems. I've ran through the schem from the Neutral Indicator switch and where all those leads go but haven't tested them. It was working before I put these new gauges on. I have ran through the wires going from the actual light and one wire goes from the light to about 8 other things. So I was assuming that is the ground, correct? It could also be the power and everything else just has a switch so that instead of power being applied all the time they will turn on and off when it is needed. I can't seem to find the problem... There is a Blue/black tracer wire and an Orange/green tracer wire that go to the bulb, but I have like 3 Orange/green tracer wires to choose from. I use each of them and get nothing. Or if I do get something not only does the light come on but so does my fuel light and it wont turn off when out of neutral....

From svrider.com (http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=80212):

Quote:
Vapor power - Red on vapor plug goes to red on cluster harness
Black on vapor plug goes to Black/white on cluster harness

Fuel level: Blinking light (low fuel) - Red/black (-) Orange/Green (+)
Steady light (get your ass to the station) - Black/Light green (-) Orange/Green (+)
The light will not blink anymore, the stock cluster provided the blinking mechanism. So if you wire up the Red/black and orange/green you will just get a solid light. You will have to run 2 lights for for both fuel level positions.

Neutral - Black/blue (-) Orange/green (+)

Oil - Green/Yellow (-) Orange/Green (+)

Turn left - Black/white (-) Black (+)

Turn Right - Black/white (-) Light green (+)

High Beam - Black/White (-) Yellow (+)

High water temp light - Black/Green (-) Orange(green (+)

For refrence Orange/Green is switched ignition power and Black/white is common ground.

I went to a wedding the last bike night. Missed it. =/

Mind giving me a call if you have a lil experience with this? There is a problem with those wire codes.

I'll have to call sometime tonight when I get home. BTW, I don't know if I wired mine up "correctly." For some things, I just poked around with a multimeter until I found what I was looking for. For example, put the bike in gear, test some pins, then put the bike in neutral and test the pins again.

Voltage from BL/B to O/G when in neutral = 0 and even in gear it is 0... dubya tee eff.

Where is this B/Bl everyone is talking about. haha. My wiring must be different, but they are stock harnesses!!!!

Checking right now as to how much paint would be on my other 4 pieces. Looking into a neon green color and a pearl orange. New levers are installed but don't have the pictures yet. Nothing special, but it's done. Probably going into Cycle Salvage to look for a shifter and left handlebar controls.

Cycle Salvage didn't have anything. Bought some controls from a guy off SVRider and it will be here next week more than likely. Price for painting the parts I want, the color I want, is going to be $150 even. I think that's not a bad price. Any thoughts?

I Ride: on sidewalks if needed.

Paint on those few key pieces looks really good to offset the Rhino lining!!
