Who has tire mounting gear?

Need a little help, gotta get a new rear tire, and need the gear to mount it. Figured would have cycle gear balance when done.
Help?

Just take it to Finishline on Chinden. Clayton will mount and balance for $17/tire. You're gonna pay $15 just to get it balanced at Cycle Gear I'm sure. Although I never balance rear tires. One good burn out or trip to Lowman and it'll be out of balance. You'll never feel it if you don't balance it. Come on, it's a Buell.

Cycle gear balances for free, no problem there. And the the bike vibrates enough with that engine, don't need anything else vibrating. It would rattle apart.

Free? Since when? Last time I went there they wanted $20 to mount and balance each tire IF they were bought there.

If you have it mounted, then yes they charge 20, but balancing is free. This is the reason that I only need mounting gear.

I thought someone talked about buying the tire from Snake river because they mount for free if you purchase it there and then walk over to Cycle gear and have them balance it. I may be wrong but I'm too lazy to look up the other post.

Tires from Snake River are kinda spendy, but they charge like $20 per tire to mount them no matter where you buy them. But yea Cycle Gear does free balance if you bring them in mounted already.

When was the last time he had a bike running. I don't think he ever had a bike. He just wants to be cool.

I'm going to say it again. Pool your money together and buy the tools and forget about the tire shuffle everytime someone needs a tire changed/balanced.

I'm so glad I bought my own tire changing/balancing tools.

Cycle gear definitely has free balancing, and another little known fact is that they will match anyone local tire mounting price. Say for example finish line will do it for $17.00 then they would match it...

to what db cooper said... buddy of mine in seattle has one of these set ups http://www.nomartirechanger.com/product/show/2 and the balancer. it's super easy once you've done a couple. he charges people and it's paid for itself and then some. after listening to everyone on here bitch about fee's i was really tempted to get one myself, but since i'm giving up bikes for the time being it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Its almost worth it to get the gear, I can get one for about 50 bucks at harbor freight, then gotta mount it to something. if they want to charge 40 to mount both tires, then I will spend the extra couple of bucks to get the gear.
Does anyone have the stuff to mount gear to concrete?

A former co-worker of mine ordered one of those No-Mar tire changers. I started a trade account with him by lending him my chain breaker/riveter

Home Depot has Red Head anchors for concrete. I'm not sure how much they are but I can give you a hand if you need to mount it.

This guy that ordered the tire changer said he got a hitch-mount for it so that he can simply attach it to his truck when he needs to use it. I wonder if the same setup could be used for the Harbor Freight tire changer?

just an FYI, i know a few people who've gone the harbor freight route and not really been happy with what they got and have then either bought the No Mar set up or have at a minimum bought additional pieces from No Mar. i believe the biggest complaint was about the harbor freight set up scratching up peoples rims. oh... i apologize if you already know this, but the thing that caused me and my buddy the most problems when learning how to do our own tires was a pretty basic thing that we just didn't realize.

if you look at the rim there is sort of a v groove down the middle of it. when you are taking the tire off or putting one on you have to make sure that the bead of the tire is pressed in that groove otherwise you won't have enough give on the tire to make it over the rim. No Mar has these little deals which clamp to the rim and it has a big plastic screw device which positions the tire in the groove while your working your way around the other side of the rim. You don't need them though, just need to remember to keep the tire pushed down. We struggled on two tires for a while tring to get the tires back onto the rim having no clue about that. Got pissed and by dumb luck it fell into place and it was all of a sudden instanly easy. Took us another hour or so on the next tire to figure out what had happened. We had a good laugh after we realized it. If you get in a position where you are working super hard.... just remeber that on No Mar's website they show like a 120lb lady doing it so you may need to step back and try and figure out what you are doing wrong.

know about the scratching, which is why the parts are getting coated that touch the rim, wouldn't be my first time changing a tire, just used another riders gear to do it, and it was a harbor freight unit too.

Ok here's what you need to do......take the rim clamps and smooth out the welding slag and bad welds. Do this where the clamp would touch the rim. Scuff up the paint and coat them in a rubber coating. Put rags over the rim clamps when you put a tire on the machine. Or you can get intouch with nomar guys and order the weldable mounts they have for other tire machines. They don't advertise this product on their website, they told me this at MMP during the WSB races.

Now, go buy a Coats 220 mount/demount bar that has the plastic covers on the ends to avoid scratching the rims and buy extra plastic covers for this mount/demount bar. The plastic covers that will not scratch rims was the thing that sealed the deal for me.

You will also need a way to lube the tires when you change them out..be creative.

Balancing tires I have the Handy Industries static balancer. You can do a search on the internet to find stick on type wheel weights, I forget where I bought them at.

Good corporate knowledge mentioned above, my trial and error and checking account funded the above.

Good luck, the Boise tire shuffle has ended for you.

Now you just need to make a name for your tire shop.

Mine is Big Y Tires.
