Could use some help working on my bike.

Well im taking my bike apart right now trying to figure out why it wont start and just working on the spark plugs. but if anyone whos motorcycle savy wanted to come help im sure they could be paid with beer. . i could really use some help cuase im thinking i might have to take it in to a shop to get it really looked at. plus since ive got it all torn down it would save me on labor cost. Plus i have to look at getting missing bolts replaced plus part of my air ram tubes r missing all together like they were cut off. and i dont know yet if i want to just replace or fix my plastics. then get them repainted. any advice let me know or call me if your interested in coming over. Thanks

I'll give you a call later this weekend and let you know for sure, but it will most likely be monday I've got your service manual downloading right now, and I will search some forums tomorrow at work to see if any one else is having similar problems.

All I need from you is exactly what happens when you turn the key, do the lights/gauges come on? if yes when you hit the start button does anything happen?

A bad ground connection can cause this problem. I've seen ground straps vibrate loose (on my friend's Harley--haha) and everything dies.

That's what I have my money on either that or a fusible link.

A forgotten fuse is the one right next to the battery. Check there first, have had that problem before on another bike. Sounds to be something simple. Just check battery connections and relays.

well u and carls cycle both agreed on that 30 amp fuse and sure enough it was blown. so i replaced it and hooked the battery back up and the bike came on with out the key in it so messing with the wires that r coming of of the ignition i have a short in the ignition somewhere.so i replaced the spark plugs and tighten them down and put them all back together and now for whatever reason the bike just does not want to crank over. she's trying like the starters working its just not firing or something sionow i dont know. but im that much closer im hopen to hear her purr today for alittle bit

Did you mix up the spark plug wires? With there being a short in the ignition kinda sounds like some one may have tried to hot-wire it when you left it over night.

Is the battery also fully charged? This will give a week cranking. A quick check to see if it is the starter is to get a fairly thick wire and touch the positive side of the battery to the starter. That would tell you if the starter is getting enough juice from the battery or it is somewhere else in the wiring. Check the small stuff first before buying the expensive parts.

well i did put the spark plug cable back the way they were cuase there were only long enough to fit the right connection on each but the battery is 100% cuase i went down and had it tested under load today. but i had to take a nap for alittle while and when i went back out there the main fuel line had broke and there was about 3 and half gallons of gas every where. so that was really bad. but we got that cleaned up and ill go back out thee to double check my work. but i cant think of why it would be starting but its like the gas wasnt getting to the engine.

ok so my last report for the night is i took it all aprt again and pulled a spark plus and it didnt look like it had been firing at all.so i put it bakc and i realized i hadnt put the caps back on all the way so i pushed them in a bout another 1/8inch at the most and checked the wiring and and put the air box on check the wiring for that then the gas tank and put alittle bit of gas in the tank. so i got to fire it up and still nothing it just doesn't want to crank over. i then checked all my fuses and wring and it all looks good. plus i checked the ground and that good too. so i just dont know. im very discouraged right now.

could u smell gas in the cycinder chamber, or was the spark plugs wet all from gas when u pulled them. if they had not fired at all then the gas would still be there. if there is no gas then u r not getting fuel to the chamber. but i will say, have never worked on a bike, but plenty of cars

well when i pulled the spark plug it looks like i was getting out of the box its still looks unused and i thought maybe it was the fuel pump but the gas is going some where cuase i does smell like raw fuel but everything kinda smells like gas right now. im just gunna let it sit on the kickstand tongith and maybe i flooded it or something so well wait till tomorrow and try again.

So it was you that stole my wifes new bike!! I'd been negotiating with the sales rep on the price of that F4i and he kept telling me he wouldn't give me the price I wanted because he had another buyer lined up that was getting financing. Oh Well how is it running now with the new CCT?? Did you replace it with a manual or an OEM replacement?

went to start the bike up the this morning and it sounds kinda weak. so i dont know what do to about it today i dont even know if im gunna mess with it. unless someone else takes a look at it. cuase theres not alot left to try i think i might take out the spark plugs again double check to make sure there gaped right and re install but it seems like to me there is a short some where and there no current going to the plugs.

Thats funny my financing didn't fall through I just told them I wanted it out the door for no more than 4000. Well at least it's running good for you, I love my 01 and don't think I'll ever get rid of it.

Don't get discouraged man, someone will help you figure it out or you'll eventually stumble on to the problem eventually. I'm no ASE mechanic but hell I'll even come over and help run through some scenario's just to see if anything was overlooked.

Just don't let me tighten any cam chain tensioners

i think im giving up on it as of today. ive done everything i can think of short of taking the motor out and i really dont have the tools or know how and really would like to avoid that if i could. so i think when i start getting paid im just gunna take it into carls with no plastics on and say fix it. and then as soon as its fixed im think im going to put it up for sale and then take when i get as a down payment on a newer bike. maybe. but as of right now im done.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck lately. If you would like I can look at your bike for you. I don't charge anything if I don't fix it and don't charge to much when I do fix it. Can you get the motorcycle to Meridian or do you need it picked up. I don't have any side projects right now and could use something to kill idle time.
