I Ride: low and slow

[QUOTE=m5james;130579]Cool

True

That's good cause I shake my head when I see people riding in weather like this. I've watched a friend spin his bike out right in front of me, had countless friends lay their bike down rolling onto the throttle when getting onto the onramp, etc...I'm not worried, I just don't like hearing about people crash when it could have been easily avoided by driving a car instead...so does that mean you're not coming and proving me right?

Neither do I as I'm only a fair weather rider, my bike is an 01 and only has 24k - no riding in the rain, sub 50* temps, etc...that's what a vehicle w/ heated seats and steering wheel is for.

That's an assumption, but ok.QUOTE]

you shake your head? really i ride year round everyday it doesnt snow or rain i ride. the only thing to shake ur head at is your dumb ass friends who wreck probably riding like a jack ass.

Yea, it sure does sound like a great meet and greet. I am almost sad that I won't make it. But since I have Titanium Street Cred, I ain't too worried about what others would think that I missed it.

Risk is the element in this sport that is entirely subjective. Sure, some will gasp watching a fellow rider hoist a standup wheelie while riding down the freeway, or going for a mid December romp up a frozen, sandy road to a ski resort. Others will applaud. When risk element safely pays off and the rider wins the race, we say he is brave. When the risk results in injury or death, we call it stupidity. Everyone driving faster then you is a maniac, and everyone driving slower is an idiot. Thank goodness we have a public forum where we can all dish out our value judgements to the brave, the stupid, the maniacs, and the idiots while simultaniously reassuring ourselves that our own personal judgment is sound. The grandest irony is that well over 50% of the general public considers ANY motorcycle riding to be an unwise risk.

riding your bike on the street, to the store, even carving the canyon, is not a sport. you are simply doing something that you enjoy, that would be more of a hobby. If that was the case then why is it not a sport doing it in the cage?

Just cause you can't remember the last time you did it, let alone doing it in your cage, is no excuse to remind me what I did last week. Play Nice....

I never did it in my cage, but I do recall borrowing my sisters car to meet up with the gf back in the day.... interesting night, not sure what was more comfy the back of the car or the rock at the train depot.

And if your trailer counts as a cage.... you didn't complain Friday night

No you keep it, might give you something to look forward to everynight you are in the garage. Might also save on bandwidth so you don't have to always look for the newest midget porn

Knitting and reading are also pleasant past times for some, but they aren't a sport.

Now my first girlfriend wouldnt fall into this but wouldnt ###king be a sport then? By this definition then porn stars are athletes and should be allowed in the Olympics.

Negative, knitting and reading don't require skill. I think the lack of reading comprehension on this forum is proof enough.

if reading doesnt take skill then why do all the schools rate the "reading skills" of their students?

huh huh?

its a skill...not a very hard skill to aquire but it is a skilll

"Reading is the receptive skill in the written mode. It can develop independently of listening and speaking skills, but often develops along with them, especially in societies with a highly-developed literary tradition. Reading can help build vocabulary that helps listening comprehension at the later stages, particularly"

Reading isn't a skill, its the comprehension part where the skill is involved

It requires no physical activity to read or listen...bicycle riding is a sport too if you ride other then out of necessity that is...we ride our bikes for pleasure as well as necessity at times...if you ride a bicycle for pleasure like those dudes that hold up traffic and wear unitards or down mountains with now trails its a sport...I doubt anyone on this forum solely uses their bikes for commuting

Based on the definition I feel riding meets that criteria therefore I choose to call it a sport...there are plenty of people that play basket ball and shoot hoops or throw a football around that dont play in the NBA or the NFL but its still considered a sport even though they choose not to make it competitive...I feel the same applies here as there are people that race and its a sport although we choose ride for fun.

Thats just my opinion and you are entitled to yours and may politely disagree.

Where from? I don't know a lot of spots in this area either, and when I tried seeing if we could have one regular meeting spot all the time like we did in Seattle, it was quickly shot down and turned into the bickering thread that it is.
