BOISE -- One person was injured in a motorcycle crash on Bogus Basin Road Sunday afternoon.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. Nicholas R. Gunter, 28, of Boise, was northbound on Bogus Basin Road on a 2003 Honda motorcycle when he hit a patch of sand going around a corner and overturned his bike near milepost 14.

Gunter was taken to St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Boise with non-life-threatening injuries. Gunter was wearing a helmet.

He was cited for speed and for not having a motorcycle endorsement.

-------------------------------------------------

Hmm, wonder how they cited him for speeding after the fact. Doesn't take much to go down when you hit a patch of sand.

I wish more riders would register here so they could find out road conditions before hand.

Bogus Basin Road is now as it has always been.
Just like everything, there is a learning curve involved.
And, unfortunately, it is steeper for some riders than others.

Prayers to Mr. Gunter for a speedy recovery.

No M endorsement will most likely indicate he had very little education about the hazards that comes with motorcycling. Once again, another rider learning the hard way who will just blame the crash on the sand after it's all said and done, when in fact he has nobody to blame but himself.

I had no idea that Bogus Basin Road is patrolled by ISP.

Really? There are members of this forum that have ridden for years and years and years that don't have an endorsement. Bogus road has and always will be one of the worst roads to ride a bike on.

Always have something to add don't you. To each their own but you've been warned, you'll get no sympathy from me if you wad your bike up on bogus.

Bogus is horrible. Stay the eff off it. Its all mine. Piss off. I'm done sharing.

ISP patrols Bogus due the fact that half of the road is in Boise County, which makes for long response times due to the long drive from HSP or IC for Boise County enforcement. Watch for the ISP on the BMW GS800. He spends alot of time there.

As for speeding tickets after the fact: 1) Basic rule: Too fast for conditions (conditions being the presence of sand on the roadway). 2) Accident reconstruction methodology looking at the length of skid marks can be used to determine approximate speed calculation at the point of lost traction. If that sum is greater than the posted limit, Viola', you get new wall paper.

I find this fact amusing and perplexing all at the same time. The chances of showing your DL to Johnny Law are much higher on a motorcycle, and that is an instant, "not likely to catch a break", sort of ticket just waiting to happen. Why would anyone risk points on their license, fine, and the greatly enhanced possibility of losing a civil suit if the rider causes an injury? It makes no sense to me.

For some its not a priority, my point was that the fact the guy didn't have an M endorsement doesn't necessarily mean he is a new rider.

I went quite a few years before I got mine. And "Not a a priority" was exactly why I took so long. I was lazy and it was not conveniant for me to get it.

Well that... and the fact that it took you 17 attempts to pass the rider test. Something about "long smoking burnouts through the cones" shinanigans on the purple dino that kept failing you. Thats what I heard anyway...

I personally won't ride bogus on my sportbike. They lay down 10 million pounds of sound on that thing during the winter, and it really never clears off. If I had an adventure bike that would be another story!

Right up until about 2 weeks ago Bogus wasn't any worse than any other normally traveled road.

Not sure but there's tons of sand up there. Someone here said its because they start running sand up in preperation for winter.

It's the Nazi Mountain Bikers going up there with buckets of sand late at night. Trying to kill us off. Seriously... Notice, it's only sandy on the corners?

Ummmmm........Eagle Road and anywhere on it after 6am would get my vote on this.
At least on Bogus you are (hopefully) in control of your surroundings.
And if you ride in such a mindset that you are not fully aware of Bogus Basin Road's limitations when you're riding on it (especially early in the season, or after a rain.....and it does rain up in the hills when it doesn't in Boyzee) you will be made aware of your own limitations in short order.

Remember.....gravity, it's not only a concept....it's the law!!!

I don't have to worry about sand mid corner and bike riders in the middle of the road on eagle, the danger of traffic is the same. I wouldn't ride eagle road for fun or the scenery.

I was beyond Bogus resort at Moore's Mn. on 7/8. I wasn't on my bike but we left the mnt at around 6 pm when it started raining. It was a 100 degree day earlier. While still driving the dirt roads down the mnt, it got windy, cold and started hailing. By the time we reached the resort is was pouring really hard and it was 58 degrees! Water was pouring over the roadway and the rain continued for 6-7 miles before the sky finally opened up again around 5000 ft. It was almost 90 degrees and clear by the time we reached the valley. I was very surprised the news that night and the next day made no mention of it. Those weather guys need to look out to the hills sometimes.

I'm sure this, or another recent mnt. storm was the source of much of the sand wash and I wish I had known the storm would leave the sand strewn out on the roadway like that so that I could warn others.
