| Beware of GROUP PRIDE
OK Boys and Girls time for the little voice reminder: When riding with a group--don't let your pride get in the way of your safety. Ride your own ride. Go your own pace. If someone is faster than you--let them go. If you're unfamiliar with the road--slow down. If you're new to the bike--relax and learn. Personally I am like a dog. I won't run from a group BUT if someone in the group runs--I'LL CHASE. It's a bad habit I still have trouble with and I've been riding street for 26 years. It's fun to ride with a group. I personally don't like riding 'in formation' and all that sort of thing. I just like to run the bike. I still feel trepidation when I'm with a group, for two reasons: 1. Fear I'll chase the fast guys and things will get stupid fast and someone will get hurt. 2. Someone will chase me while I'm going stupid fast and hurt themselves. We can't be responible for other's actions, only for our own. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. |

| Re: Beware of GROUP PRIDE FOR THE REMINDERS.. I would like to add to this also.. when in groups.. this is not the time to "SHOW OFF!" No highchairs.. wheelies.. stunting etc.... your actions can be accident waiting to happen.. when you slip and up and take out the pack behind you or to the side of you. Wear your gear.. think before you do!!!!! There have been way to many deaths this year.. |

This story came out recently and is somewhat related: U.S. 95 in Idaho is one of America's deadliest -- America's deadliest drives aren't big highways. They're small roads. In 2005, 61% of those killed while driving died on rural, two-lane byways, according to the U.S. General Accounting Office. http://www.forbes.com/2007/07/12/roa...adlyroads.html |

I had this problem when i had my R6, but i don't know how i will be with the new R1, i will probably be the same way, but with all these deaths i'm gettin a little more cautious so i've noticed that i'm going slower and paying more attention to the other drivers, like this morning some almost hit me, he didn't even look in his mirrors to see if anybody was in the other lane he just came right over as if he owned the road.

My three safety rules.. 1. It's not a race, it's a ride. You can't win because there is no prize. 2. It's your ride,.. not mine or the faster guy behind you (and me) 3. If you are feeling pressured.... slow down,... if you are feeling out of whack SLOW DOWN ,..If you don't want to go as fast as the lead group don't. |

You all hit the nail on the head. I like to ride a lot. I like the group rides alot to. I like to be safe and see everyone after the rides. So all be safe and slow the down and lets have many more group rides with the friends you like. Rather ride with you all then go to a funeral.

I've spent the afternoon doing a lot of research on motorcycle crash statistics. Interesting stuff. Highest fatality by age group 20-29. Age group withthe greatest rise in fatalities 40-49. Group with the most alchohol involved 40-49. Area where deaths are on the rise:rural roads Engine size inviolved with the most fatalities 600-900cc. All the deaths and accidents lately have proven these stat's. Oh yeah. Helmets reduced brain injury rates by 67% and deaths by 37%. Other gear reduced fatalities by 9%. I've ridden with almost all the posters so far here and feel like even though we get out and have some fun this group rides responsibly. It's the guys that dont post, the squids we see everyday in thier shorts and flip flops, etc. reminds me of the guy who created his own drive thru window at the taco bell (thanks Rhonda!) Anyway I'm just as frustrated by all this as everyone else. Like it's been said. We all have to decide what we are going to do that day when we get on the bike. Its fun to get out, burn some curves and goof around but it only takes a split second mistake to ruin lives. If you are a lurker who stunts, races, is a "squid" or anything else like that take a minute and step up and be a man. Ask yourself "is what I'm doing going to hurt others" ie the crowd on the side of the road or your passenger. When EMS shovels you up off the road, do you have enough life/health insurance so you or your family doesnt end up homeless and destitute? It up to us to take care of our friends and try to help others. Thats what I'm going to do. Oh yeah one more stat. The leading cause of motorcycle crashes was impacting a car making a left turn when the motorcycle was going straight. Just like that poor guy and gal on Hwy 21. Be safe out there. |

Street Racing is WAY different from actual, sanctioned Road Racing and Drag Racing. Sanctioned racing is WAY cool and is the safest place to be on a bike! | |

Maybe I just have a bad memory, or bad survival reactions. I just can't push it very hard on the street. On a track I can make several laps and my brain shuts off the second guessing meter. On the street I just can't get past a couple of loose turns and let myself really feel free. Hence the second guessing. Maybe a ride up bogus everynight for a week would let me learn the route. Or snowboarding. But I just can't bring myself to follow these guys into all the blind decreasing radius turns. |
