Trooper hurt in crash at busy intersection..

BOISE -- An Idaho State Police trooper was taken to a local hospital after crashing his motorcycle just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Eagle and Ustick roads.

According to ISP spokesman Rick Ohnsman, the trooper may have been pursuing a possible DUI suspect in a van when he entered the intersection, hit a patch of sand and swerved to avoid another vehicle. He did not strike another car, but was hurt in the accident. The trooper was taken to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. The extent of his injuries are not known.

Police are on the scene are interviewing several witnesses.

Ohnsman say the pursuit of the driver of a white 2007 Ford Econoline van stretched across several counties this afternoon.

A witness called police dispatch around 1:04 p.m. to report a van driving erratically on westbound Interstate 84 near Glenns Ferry. Idaho State Police turned the pursuit over to Elmore County Sheriff's deputies, but they could not catch up to the van, which was reportedly driving between 65 to 80 miles per hour. The van then entered Ada County and sideswiped a tow truck. The driver continued to tailgate others and wind in and out of the lanes of traffic. The van exited I-84 at Eagle Road, where it was spotted again.

The trooper appears to have been responding to a call from dispatch that the van had been seen in the area. It is not known if the trooper actually came in contact with the van.

Ohnsman says they did get a license plate number and the van is registered to a Meridian business. Officers will be following up that lead.

Oh so when a cop dumps his bike they blame it on sand. When anybody else dumps their bike they always question if alcohol was a factor. Well Mr. News Reporter, was alcohol a factor with the cop dumped his bike?

Re: Trooper hurt in crash at busy intersection..

and i know for a fact there isnt enough sand in that intersection to make you lose your bike. i go that way almost every day. lying assholes. quit slanting the news and tell the truth, they always glorify the people that dont deserve it and shun those that do.

here is an joke i heard on this topic.....a guy is at the zoo when he sees a girl get grabbed by a lion. without hesitation he runs over punches the lion in the head and snatches the girl away before it could do any serious damage. a guy standing there sees the whole thing and walks up and says "i am a reporter for the new york times and what you did was truly amazing. i want to put your story on the front page of tomorrow's paper" the good samaritan agrees and tell the reporter to include that he is a marine. the next morning the guy grabs a copy of the new york times to see if it did make the front page. sure enough it read "US MARINE ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH" damn media anyways

Re: Trooper hurt in crash at busy intersection..

It is quite funny, they still have not confirmed if he actually seen the van or not. They stated he may have been responding to the call but not once confirmed it had anything to do with that call.

Also, I am with R1FreakZX10RDON on this one that the Ustick and Eagle intersection is not bad with debris, I travel that twice a day. More than likely operator error.

I hope he has a speedy recoverery.

Because I live off Ustick and Eagle, I am going to disagree with you two. If you are heading South on Eagle and turn Left at Ustick you will see plenty of sand/gravel (mainly gravel) on the road from the construction going on south of that intersection. Some days are worse than others, but I still don't see this as the problem for why he slid out.

Who cares, operator error or not. Hope he recovers quickly. Ride a bike long enough, professionally or recreationally, in your life you're eventially going to mess up and lay it down. Hopefully you survive to ride again.

Actually I care! It is called learning, it may not have been me making a mistake but I can learn from it. Although it is hard when the media changes things up and you don't get the entire story. As for "you are going to eventually mess up and lay it down" sorry I don't believe that. Everyone has a statistical chance to go down, does not mean they will, but hey that's another story and another thread.

Stubby, I have always been in the left lane heading north on Eagle and never looked that far into the turn since I do not turn there. But this morning I saw what you were talking about. Thanks for setting it straight.

As of this morning, no more updates as of 7:49AM -

Re: Trooper hurt in crash at busy intersection..

What I would like to see, and purely from a curriosity standpoint, is the footage from the traffic cam. KTVB shows a still of the ambulance arriving but nothing of his dump. I am not sure how they opperate though, it could be that nothing was recorded until the report of a crash came in, but in today's digital world, you would think that footage was stored somewhere.

Re: Trooper hurt in crash at busy intersection..

Swerve + Brake = 110% traction consumption = Fall (my personal guess).
Swerve + Sand = 110% traction consumption = wonderful explaination for the press.

I'd bank he did what lots of us do, he hit the brakes, then swerved while still on them and just fell.

So it goes. Hope he has a speedy recovery. OH, and think about those runs on the Lowman road, ANY debris or sand is bad news. I imagine if you walked around out in the middle of the intersection you'd find fine sand and crap pushed out at the edges of the riding line.
