Helmet speakers?

So I am looking forward to Christmas, and what I really want is a set of in-helmet speakers to jam out to my i-pod. I have some pretty good headphones, but want to reduce steps and complications to gearing up. They can't be too expensive, so I am not worried about working with communicators or any bells and whistles, just good sound for music. Wireless would be optimal but not needed if it's very pricey. Any ideas of what's available and has anyone used any? A lot of the stuff I can find is designed for communicators.

Thanks!

Re: Helmet speakers?

My boss has one with one of the communicators on his helmet and says they're awesome. His setup was like $240 though.

I've only ever seen this stuff setup for communications. I'd be interested if you find some just for pluggin in an MP3 player.

Re: Helmet speakers?

I'm interested in the same thing, not a fan of gearing up with headphones. I thought about looking into the kind you'd put into a ski-helmet, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to trim the padding out of a moto helmet, an idea I'm not a big fan of.

What's the matter with the communicator ones you've seen, expensive, or not designed for that purpose?

I guess if I actually took the time to look I'd find them.

Heheh, yeah... maybe I should clarify. I had seen those, but they kinda seemed like no-name brands, so I wasn't sure if they were reputable. I was expecting to have to pay more like $100 for something nice.

I'm all about extras, just didn't want to pay $250 for a pair of speakers.

Re: Helmet speakers?

For $250 I think you could buy the camera setup at Cycle Gear, and it comes with helmet speakers so you can listen to music while riding/filming.

It's going to be a bit before I can order them. I'm about to spend 80 on NIN tickets and that doesn't leave me with much play money till next payday.

Re: Helmet speakers?

ok you guys listen up. I did this and it works like a charm . . . . . . . . . till you step on the cable and break it.

go to walmart and buy the cheapest set of headphones( not earbuds )and velcro.

dismantle headphones( carefully )till you have just the speakers, speaker grills, and wires.

attach velcro to back of speakers and inside of helmet, install speakers, finally dance like a fool aka me on your bike.

total cost including tax, at most $15.

or if you wanna go really cheap then smack your kids, or neighbor kids, and steal their headphones.

Whats funny is that I actually did that to my helmet at one time. I hollowed out the ear pads to put the speakers in, then still easy to get on and off. found it to be a pain when trying to put the wire through my jacket or just making a quick run, so I don't even put on a stereo now.

Don't forget the "Fish tremble at the sound of my name" sticker inside. That's crucial.

Re: Helmet speakers?

So, I found an old pair of over-ear headphones and cannibalized them to put in my helmet. Sounds pretty good, bass isn't great, but will work for what I want. I'll be interested to see how they work at full speed, just chillin at my desk with my bucket on "testing" them.

Re: Helmet speakers?

Yes. I would never dream of driving in excess of the posted limit...

The good news is that it sounded pretty decent @ 80 (with my head sticking above the windshield). The speakers I used weren't the best, and I'm pretty sure if I would've used more powerful ones, it'd sound better. But I can jam out and maybe grab some with a higher decibel rating later on if I really want.

Re: Helmet speakers?

I got some of the $50 speakers with the detatchable cord with the volume controll and all. They are great around town but you can hardly hear anything at speed and then my ears ring that much more after a long ride. I'll use the speakers for around town and get some ER6i ear buds for long rides. Right now I have some Koss ear buds modded with big foam earplugs that cancel out a lot noise well.

Re: Helmet speakers?

So I got the Iasus Xsound2's for Christmas. Finally got a chance to throw them in my lid today and looks like they're not going to work. Without doing any hollowing out or severe modification to the cheek pads, there's just not enough room and my ears are totally squished. I can't believe there is that much less room in my Shoei RF1000 than everyone else's helmets. Did you guys use any trickery to get them to fit or is modification necessary?
