Nevermind! Took me quite a while to find anything on it but apparently the stuff the shell is made of is really weak and is more than likely to crack in half like an egg. Soooo not going with the cheap/cool bucket by Hawk. Haha |

You can get an excelent helmet without paying $400-600, I'm sorry but that old questions of "how much is your head worth" is a marketing tactic. My head is worth more to me than any helmet I have seen but that doesn't mean I have to blow all my cash on a Name. This is not just my opinion, Motorcyclist did a big test a few years back and it showed how some of the cheaper helmets delivered less shock to your brain than some of the high end snell helmets. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/ge...iew/index.html "The DOT helmets we had were all plastic-shelled, and none cost more than $100. How did they do? They kicked butt. In what must be considered a head-impact Cinderella story, the DOT-only helmets from Z1R delivered less average G force to the headform through all the impacts than any others in the test. And they still excelled in the big-hit, 150-joule impact&151a blast 66 percent harder than any actual DOT test for a medium-sized helmet........" Don't get me wrong, the Shoei and Arai are way cool but it looks like the original poster is looking for a good inexpensive helmet and the first suggestion was Arai ![]() In attempt to stay on topic...lol I don't honestly know anything about Hawk Helmets and my concern would be if you can get replacement visors and fit. There are a ton of good brand name helmets for $150-200 that work really well and test just as well ie. Scorpion, HJC, KBC, etc. |

?WTF? is an Arai TRACKER (WTF? I had to google that model and it sold for 179, How old is that)... I wonder why this independant study didnt rate the any of the top Shoei X-11 RF1000 or any of the better Arai's...Throughout this article they kept saying like the Japense Shoei or Arai, but tested NONE... Makes me wonder who wrote it? |

![]() Exactly my thoughts. Just go by the ratings on a helmet. You can get a very nice HJC or AFX that is DOT, Snell, and ECE approved for just over $100. If they can pass those rating systems I think they'll protect my dome well enough. Sure, the expensive helmets are lighter and maybe more aerodynamic, etc. but unless you are a professional racer or trying to set a land speed record those are nothing anyone needs to worry about when considering a helmet. ![]() | |

Come on now Slider of course the Shoei is an awesome helmet...Just wondering Y your not wearing it in your photo signature...Haha... I have had both the X-11 and RF1000 and they are great...I decided to try an ARAI (what I used to use while in riding in the dirt) and couldnt belive the difference in fit and internal sound...Arai was way quieter especially the wind noise... Of course the contributors were Euro - otherwise in the article they wouldnt compare all the facts with names like Arai and Shoei, and not test them... Yeah, paying for a helmet is a pain...They cost so damn much...I am just saying get the highest quality one you can afford...HJC, KBC make great helmets...I would just stay home a couple weekends and not go out and save that extra 200 bones for an Arai...It's just my preference... |
