Question about powder coating quality?

This may sound like a dumb question, but if I was to powder coat bolts on my bike, when I screw and unscrew them will the paint come off? Reason I ask is that I want to paint some of the bolts, but if the powder coating will come off either way then I would rather save some money and buy spray paint at walmart and do it that way.

If you powder coat the threads, they'll never fit in the holes. Powder coat is pretty thick compared to paint. Aren't the threads hidden anyways?

Just buy a colored anodized bolt kit. I searched for about 20 sec, and couldn't find one for a Ninja 250, but I'm sure their out there.

I'm sure any paint or powder coating is gonna come off as soon as you take a socket or screwdriver to it.

I agree with Linker. Get some anodized bolts. Just figure out what thread pitch you need (as opposed to finding bike specific ones that will cost twice as much) and find them online. You'll pay less than powdercoat.

Don't get red anodized unless you want pink a few months later.

Well I was am going for a black and blue mix. Some of my fairing amongst other parts I want to get powder coated later on down the road, probably next year after I finish paying for the bike but I didn't think that bolts would stay once I screw/unscrew them. So I guess I might just do the walmart method.

How would I go about finding the thread pitch btw?

Take a bolt to Home Depot, they have a little panel in the screw/bolt isle with the metric/standard thread patterns on it. Try and screw it in the different holes, till you find the right one.

Got it! I guess I can try this tomorrow. Btw, I tried googling for anodized bolts just bolts instead of bike type and I am having trouble finding just bolts. Do you know of any websites? Or anywhere local where I can get these?

There are several types of powder coating, the most common is polyester. There are specialty coatings like Teflon, Nylon, and Halar as well. If the bolts happen to be allen heads, then go ahead and powder coat them. Tape off the allen section before coating and then after the bolt is installed use some touch up paint if you really feel the need to.

If it is a regular bolt and you need a socket to remove it, then do not poweder coat it. It might last a while but normally it doesn't. You will end up using a bigger socket and the chances of rounding your corners is going to be greater. Stick with anodizing here, or the rattle can.

I Ride: Over anything in my way.

EPSCO powder coating will cover any threads so they dont get coated. As par as it cracking when you unscrew and screw it in you will have to ask
