I Ride: 2007 YZFR1

Is this sled a good trade?

Whats this sled worth. I dude on craigslist that wants to trade me for my 22"s. The rims are worth about 1200.00 to 1500.00 but the market wont support that right now so im trying to get between 850.00 and 900.00 (Less for BRN members but no one wants dubs around here).

Anyway dude wants to trade a 1996 Arctic cat ZR440 Sled. What do ya think. I need to know if it makes financial sense not your opinion on whether you would rather have a sled than wheels.

Thanks Peeps!!!!

I Ride: kawasaki ZX-14, Suzuki Eiger, Yamaha Bruin, and a Artic Cat 250.

What mod's are done to it and what track?

I Ride: on sidewalks if needed.

Does it have the 431cc or the 436c motor?? Nada lists the value between $700 for the 431cc and $1200 for the 436cc.

I think it's a nice sled and is a good starter for you guys. if it turns out you like sledding then you can let Kayla ride this one and upgrade to a more agressive one for you. And if it turns out you don't like it you can still sell it in a year or so for $700-1k bucks.

Edit: by starter sled I mean it'll book down the trail just fine but its no 800 rotax, with 3" paddles that'll tackle any hill or fly through the powder.

I had an arctic cat 440 when I was stationed in Alaska and it did pretty good with 3 inch paddles in deep powder. Mikey is right its no 800 but it will do good for now. If he is willing to do the trade I would go for it.

I Ride: 95 CR500R, various sleds

im not convinced that many people here know what they are talkin about when it comes to sleds. There are no 3 inch paddle tracks. the sled you have a picture of is a race sled, liquid cooled 440 that makes roughly 100 horsepower. it can be ridden by inexperienced newbies but putting around is really not its thing. it has a 121 inch track with 1.25 inch paddles.

its worth about a grand, so i guess it comes down to which one you want the most.

turbo's right. but I'd be really suprised if a zr made over 79 horse. on fuel. the pic of that sled doesn't look like the spent any money on parts, other than the ski's and a kill switch, still has the 30 pound seat

I don't pretend to know a whole lot about sleds, I grew up riding them with my family, but stopped riding them many years ago. I guess I was uneducated and slightly exagerating when I said 3" paddles, I just know that all the sleds my family owned had 1/2-3/4" paddles which meant when you got off in the powder, and didn't keep your speed up, you'd end up digging your way out...lol On a side note what are the longest paddles?? 2 1/2"?? I know some of the new sleds at SRY have got some gnarly paddles on them.

I honestly can't see you being happy with this bran, as it will scream down the groomed trails, and will be fun in the little play areas...ie open field areas next to the trails that other people have packed down a bit, but it won't go bombing off through the trees or go where no one else has gone. Plus you cant ride 2up on this machine, as the supspension will not take it. My folks have a sled we did that to, and it sits damn near on the ground and rides like an old Chevy now because we did too much 2ups on it.

That sled is worth about $600, those short track pos's aren't good for chit, unless you like riding trails and lakes.

1997 ZR 440 / ZL 440 / Z 440
The ZR 440 is finally available off the racetrack

It's no wonder SnoWest named the ZR 440 the 1997 Race Sled of the Year. This lean and green, race track chomping machine is the ultimate in racing perfection -- any time, any where, the ZR 440 stands alone. You know it, that's why you've been asking for it, and now Arctic Cat is releasing the ZR 440 to the general public. This is a machine bred for the racetrack, it lives and breathes speed, power, and victory. The ZR 440 is the racing sled of Champions Kirk Hibbert and Brad Pake. And, just as Kirk and Brad have got the competition cringing in terror, the ZR 440 has got them running with fear.

Under the lightweight, aerodynamic hood of the ZR is a 437cc liquid-cooled twin that, with a touch of the throttle, is like letting 90 horses charge wild. A case-reed inducted motor, seven-port Nicasil cylinders and new Arctco drive clutch means engine technology at its finest. And the ZR 440's suspension is so smooth it could be a pick-up line. Up front, the ZR 440 sports the all new aluminum bulkhead AWS V chassis with double-wishbone chromoly A-arms, progressive rate springs and Ryde FX gas shocks -- a total travel of 8.2-inches. And in the back, our revolutionary FasTrack Long Travel suspension System has redefined rear suspension forever. The FasTrack slide-rail system and new torque sensing link have 13.5-inches of rear axle travel -- it sneers at the most gruesome moguls. The ZR 440 is top-of-the-line in power and maneuverability. And its performance: Can you say "bye-bye?" The ZR 440 is a racing sled, so handle with caution, performance this great is highly contagious.

You'll turn heads dusting the trail on a bright green ZR 440. But a sled this masterful deserves to be stared at. Hop on the new 1997 ZR 440 from Arctic Cat and you won't be the only one turning green.

Yeah Turbo is right. That is a good start to a snow cross sled. They are light with alot of power. They are actually pretty fun to ride on the trail but it is not a real good all around sled. Problem with most artic cats is the chassis start to crack up after a few years. I would look it over real well before pulling the trigger.
