I Ride: vn1500n2l | Earliest street ride to Idaho City?
Am referring to the earliest streetbike ride up to Idaho City, not dirt donkers. Road has to be safe. This isn't one of those I was there first or any other form of, uh, ego masturbation. I think the earliest I ever rode up to Idaho City was on March 18th in 2004 with a friend, and it was all good. Snow on sides of road, but not on the road. Someone mentioned that there's snow south of Idaho City. I'd think that the rain will probably wash it away. Thinking about going up to Trudy's Kitchen for a Wildcat Burger this weekend. |

I took a cage trip to IC in mid-Feb, the road was clean then. There was snow off the side of the road but I saw nothing that would cause a problem for bikes (sand, ice etc).

I drove the loop up there- IC to Horseshoe bend about 2 weeks or so ago. IC to Garden Valley is still pretty nasty-no snow on road but gravel and sand. The road to IC from Boise seemed pretty clear then. Not a ton of snow up there this year it seemed to me.

Met Rick today at 10:55am outside Ben's Crow Inn. We blasted straight up to Trudy's Kitchen in Idaho City for lunch. The road was clean and dry all the way except for a wet stretch on the outside lane of one northbound curve. Hardly any traffic. We didn't see any other motorcycles until heading south back to Boise. Two northbound sportbikes near Ellie's, and 2-up HD heading north from Highland Valley Summit. Rick took some photos alongside SH-21 across the road from the Grimes Creek jct. Weather a little cool, but was nice out. We didn't go north of Trudy's Kitchen so don't know how far anyone can go in that direction before it turns craptastic. |

Like G said, road was in great shape to Idaho City, but beyond that, don't know. Heard from the owner at Trudy's that two riders dumped their bikes up near More's Creek Summit earlier in the week because of the sand on the road....but there's no real explanation of talent, or lack thereof, in those kind of stories. It was a good time to get out and work the twisties, though!! C'mon summer!!!!!! |
