New guy need all the help i can get

hey i would like to join the forum and get to meet everyone my name is Anoose i go by Noose im looking in getting a bike, i been searching on few sits and and i got few bikes in mind, i currently have 91 kawa ex500 it has very very low miles im the second owner. im having some problems with it, i had it running last summer but this summer is not doing so good i wanna make it my fun project but i need some help. the problem is that im having that it wont start, i did get it started for maybe 30 min i couldn't keep it idling when i try to give it some throttle it would die then i would start it again and do the same last two steps but it would still die. i thought it was the battery but that was negative, i also thought it was maybe the old gas form last season, i dismounted the gas tank and emptied the gas it had particles in like it was rusting, but i placed it with new "91" it sounds like its not getting gas to even start. its trying tho, please help thanks in advance... Noose

Welcome Noose!
It sounds like carb problems. Just changing the fuel in the tank probably won't help. Carbs need to be cleaned to get rid of the junk in them. Also check the petcock strainer to make sure that it isn't clogged up.

Like Karl said its most likely the carbs. And since you have it apart you might as well put new plugs in it.

You said it had particles in the gas so I would check the fuel filter might be clogged up, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome. Like everybody else says it's most likely carb related. If there is rust in your tank you will need to get that cleaned out as well. Otherwise, it will continue to be a problem.

How do you clean it out the tank though. what we did was put a little gas in there shake it around and emptied it out. we did it a few times, the partials went away but the gas was still really brown. Is there a better way?

I have heard of several ways to do this involving putting marbles, small stones, etc in the tank with some solvent and shaking the crap out of it. You would want to make sure that the pieces that you put in there all come out though. Then flush it out with gas. There are some coatings that you can put in the tank after cleaning it out good.
