Ducati Dropping Out Of WSBK

R.I.P. Ducati World Superbike Team
August 27, 2010 | Published by ThrottleHand
Ducati announced the company will end its World Superbike factory team effort at the end of 2010, and will also reduce the amount of support and bikes to private teams. Ducati has had a factory team presence in the World Superbike Championship since the series began in 1988 and has won 13 Riders’ world titles and 16 Manufacturers’ world titles.

“This decision is part of a specific strategy made by Ducati, the aim being to further increase technological content in production models that will arrive on the market in the coming years. In order to achieve this objective, the company’s technical resources, until now engaged with the management of the factory Superbike team, will instead be dedicated to the development of the new generation of hypersport bikes, in both their homologated and Superbike race versions,” declared Gabriele Del Torchio, President and CEO of Ducati.

“I would like to thank Nori and Michel, and all of the riders that have contributed to the great history of Ducati in Superbike, but above all the Ducati employees; it is their hard work and professionalism that has allowed us to achieve such important results. A big thank you also to all of the partners that have supported us, first and foremost Xerox of course. I would also like to acknowledge the Flammini brothers who have managed the championship for so long, and the FIM, the organization with which we have continuous, constructive relations.”
This is sad

Rossi's fault?

How the hell is this Rossi's fault!?
Yeah, I'm sure he is getting THAT much more than Stoner. Enough to cause them to drop SBK. I dont think so!

MotoGP is going 1000cc in a little more than a year.

Maybe Ducati sees TWO 1000cc racing classes as kinda a waist of money?

You gotta do your research. While Im not a fan of Ducati dropping of out of SBK (almost makes me not want to Not volunteer at MMP next year without the prospect of a Ducati Island) its not like its a permanent decision. Everything I have read indicates they will be back in 2012 with their new Super Bike.

There appears to be some rule changes in the works that will all but make it impossible for the 1198 to be a true contender in SBK for the 2011 season and with the intake of Rossi and the expense that has created it only makes sense to free up some cash for the season and concentrate on development. Sh*t if I was one of the leading motorcycle manufacturers and had the leading rider working for me, I think I could come up with some pretty incredible stuff. I mean seriously, the guy made Yamaha fast didn't he. Imagine what that guy could do on a real bike.

Then there is KTM

And with KTM joining the race, Ducati would be an "also ran" V-twin anyway
