I Ride: 2009 YZF R1/2004 YZF R6 | Road conditions!
So I just did a ride from beacon light chevron to cascade and back through banks and did a reverse lowman loop. After the Shadow Valley golf course when the hill starts to Horseshoe Bend they have just put in the chip sealed road. It's fine at 60mph till you hit the double lanes then it slows to 35mph and goes to one lane construction. The rocks become LOOSER so BEWARE! After Horseshoe it goes back to normal. On my way to Idaho City from Lowman they just did more construction on the road. About 8-10 miles out of Lowman they repaved and have FRESH OIL on the roadway. It is VERY VERY SLICK. I tried to get to 40mph but my front tire almost slid out and I slowed to about 35mph tops. So pretty much from a mile south of the large downward descent to lowman to about 5 miles north of that peak is slick as hell. As for the cops I only saw 2 and they were on Highway 55 going the opposite direction. Hope this helps. Be save people!

np. I haven't gone on any long ride for a couple of weeks and this was kind of a shock. Dont like seeing any fellow rides going down.

Also, I took the wife up to Bogus Basin last night. The road was clean with very few bicyclists. Perfect for a speedy two up PACE ride. It didn't get iffy until we jumped on the dirt cat tracks and headed over the top of the mountain to the Ridge Road. The bike did pretty good on the Jeep trail until we encountered some 2ft deep ruts and a downed tree. We had our choice of going to Placerville or Clear Creek, but since it was getting dark and a bit chilly, we headed home after few miles toward 8th street.

**UPDATE** highway 55 is a bit more cleaned up, both lanes open and most rock chips sweepped up. highway 21 still has fresh oil but a lot has been soaked up by the road.

Was on this section yesterday afternoon. There is still a small amount of loose chip seal on the roads. I did get pelted with a few rocks from traffic. Also, speed limit is 45 mph. IMO I would stay off of this section until it is swept again and road stripes are painted. |
