I Ride: on youtube | bikeless noob
Hi everybody! The past few years Ive seen motorcycle diaries, long way round and became a big fan of ghostrider in Stockholm. I decided I should get a motorcycle and start riding myself. The gsxr Hayabusa is my favorite along with all sport bikes for that matter. Taking in consideration the region we live in. I may opt for the KTM SMT for sport touring capabilities. just cant decide? anyway I dont know how to ride yet but would like to meet and ride with you guys sometime in the future. tips, pointers and advice is always welcome. I have a copy of the corning bible and hope I can put it into use soon. p.s. I like ghostrider but safe sport touring is my goal. Last edited by shankopotomuss; 09-16-2012 at 08:00 PM. |

welcome to the forum, I think you should consider the Haya first without the busa. that should work better for a first bike.

Welcome . I'm glad that you are smart enough not to emulate that asshat ghost rider. take the stars course first. IMO. http://idahostar.org/ Or just pick up a GSXR, run around the block a few times. Then take her out on the open road to see what she can do. |

As a Busa owner who is trying to sell his bike I'd advise against the Busa being your first bike. I really hope those saying it would be a good first bike are kidding. Same goes for the ZX14.

TADOW! As I said...Tydd's is for sale. You should totally buy it as your first bike. It's a pretty sweet ride.

Ah yes. I forgot we live in a world where an opinion, regardless of how informed, obvious, practical, or well intentioned, can turn a normal person into a "hater"

does anybody ride a KTM SMT? any feedback on that motorcycle would be helpful. I rode a motorcycle 30+ years ago if that counts for anything. I dont know how to ride with technique. This is a reason to get on a forum and learn from others without killing myself. Just the reaction people have to the hayabusa proves how danm cool they are! does anybody here use a hayabusa for sports touring motorcycle?

I've spent some time on the KTM 950 SM which the SMT is based. It is one hell of a motard. The SMT has better seat, power, range, and wind protection. This makes for a pretty complelling argument for a touring purchase. No sportbike will ever have much of an advantage over an SMT on a twisty road, and it has all the power you will ever use. However, if you have any inclination to venture off road, I suggest a long look at the 990 Adventure. Idaho has some great paved roads, and even better dirt options. So consider your intended ride when purchasing and go have fun!

Hey everybody, you guys are so right! I found this video on youtube of hayabusa mayhem. I thought the docile characteristics and technology of the gsxr would be a good fit for me. I can see now i was way off track. its a girl bike Last edited by shankopotomuss; 09-17-2012 at 02:56 PM. |

If you plan on any dirt, skip the SMT and go directly to the Adventure. I ride alot of dirt on my BMW GS1200, enough to wish it was a 990 Adventure. The 17inch rims are a serious distraction for dirt work. The Adventure has a decent sized tank, although I notice that all the hardcore ADV riders on 990s bring extra gas. Again, it all depends upon how and where you want to go. I suspect that 200+ miles of range is enough for 99% of us. I am spoiled with my 400 mile range though.

all the regional riding with one bike? do most people have two bikes? I like sport bikes but I could compromise. would like to know how others have made their choice? and what is the asphalt to dirt ratio. With little experience I expect 90/10. Example a ride though yellowstone how much dirt could I encounter on a back road trip there and back. figure 3 day trips Last edited by shankopotomuss; 09-17-2012 at 03:49 PM. | |

Everyone is different. I had a garage ful of specialized bikes for years but replaced all of them with my adventure bike. Picture included. If you consider that there are far more dirt roads in ID than paved ones, and you do a mere 30 miles on the dirt, you will see the advantage of having a bike that does it all, with no issues. "Compromise" is what people do to ride a street only bike. I don't compromise much if I can go anywhere, no matter how far, or how much gravel. I had lunch on top of Bogus Basin last month, next to the new alpine skiing chair lift. Try that on a GSXR. I'm supremely comfortable, and my bike does a decent job of going just as fast as anyone ever needs to go on the pavement. I suggest you ride every bike you can to determine what you feel floats your boat best.

everyone's first bike should be a plated Dirtbike. Period. Spend alot of time on easy trails at first, have fun and learn how to powerslide and control your bike. Learn your tricks off road, it's more fun to ride off road anyways. Nobody there is trying to kill you, unless you are on a BMW and trying to keep up with the duck..

Ghostrider, you have set such high standards. You know, he eventually got caught. As mentioned, take the Stars course. You don't even have to own a motorcycle to take the basic course, they provide one for you to use and abuse. You can also join the Haybusa forum and gain some insight about your thoughts of getting a busa. http://www.hayabusa.org/forum/content/ Great folks, had the honor of riding with some of the members back in Vegas. LOL...my bike amongst all of those Busas. |

Welcome to the crazy house. Personally, if you wanna do some street and trails, i'd get a supermoto, but this is just me. If you haven't ridden street, just get on older 600 GSXR, CBR, or something of that sort so that way you don't have to worry about beating the crap out of it when you lay it down (trust me, you will.) But always make sure ya wear your gear, take the STARS course, and be smart. We don't need anymore funerals to attend to.

I went though some of the videos in BRN and watched the home grown crashes. I still want a hayabusa but looking at other options. anyway the new bikes should be coming in soon and with any luck I will have one. personally the ZX14 looks like cat puke next to the busa. ps. I signed up for the stars course last month (august 25) in nampa but over slept and missed it. and my 35 dollar deposit. Last edited by shankopotomuss; 09-18-2012 at 04:56 PM. |

Evil Knievel is an American icon performer who showed the world what "Balls" really means. Ghostrider is a twat asshat Douche-nozzle who risked harpooning a few 1000 cars, trucks, and minivans full of families just trying to make their way down the road. And why? To make a video. Along the way, he managed to generate a few 1000 copycats who actually DID kill themselves and others. Hows that for notoriety? If ever there was a textbook definition of ASSHAT, Ghostrider is IT. |

the only difference....Evel didnt have a go pro unless you think Evel obeyed all traffic signs when not preforming stunts in a public safe arena. I cracked up my stingray a couple times copycatting Evel: Last edited by shankopotomuss; 09-18-2012 at 06:26 PM. |

I sort of stretched the truth about the stingray. I actually had a huffy but, I rode it like it was a stingray.
