Hi, I'm PoltArt.

Hey guys I am PoltArt. I live in Meridian, ID. I started riding just this summer and have an 07 250r, I plan to get a 2010 250r next may as a 21'st b-day present to myself. I was thinking of going with a 650r but decided I wanted to go with the 250 and spend those extra g's moding the 250.
Another reason why I am choosing the 250 over the 650 is because I am not a speed demon nor do I care too much for racing, so the 250 will be more then enough for me with a few mods of course.

On a side note I work as a freelance illustrator, I do T-shirts, album overs, logos, and anything else a client may need.

Some of my past clients include:

Harley-Davidson
Bravado
Lamb of God
Winds of Plague
Psychopathic Records/Hatchetgear.com
Enfold Darkness
And many many more.

If any of you want to see some of the work I have done for those and others feel free to visit my website:

www.poltart.com

Well thanks for having a wonderful forum that I am excited to be a part of and hopefully sometime next may and later I will get to ride with you guys and learn from you!

I Ride: Ninja 650r

Welcome! Really like your Artwork. Really cool.

Advice, since you brought it up: I just upgraded from my 2007 250r this Fall (as GemST was talking about). While I was like you and thought I would want to stay with the 250r for years to come, after I was pretty comfortable (after about 8000 miles on the 250) I realized it was time to upgrade. People here know I am not fast either. I don't stunt, I don't race, etc. etc. That's not why I upgraded. I went to the 650r because I wanted to relax at 75 mph. Believe me, there is a huge difference at 55 and over between the 250 and the 650. Also - in town, the 250 requires 5-6 shifts to get to 40 mph. I do 40 in 2nd on the 650r.

Keep your 2007 for a couple years then think about why you are upgrading. The new 250 is just the old 250 with a few tweaks and new body style. It looks really good, but actually has less horsepower. Mods to make it faster are wasted when you DO decide that you want to upgrade. People aren't willing to pay top resale dollar for a modified starter bike. I regularly go out for long highway rides by myself, and love that my new bike is effortless at any legal speed. Was especially pleased doing 80 on the interstate with no difficulty holding speed or being kicked around by the wind.

Just my . I do look forward to riding with you. My TXT is in the sig. I am still riding on the weekends till it gets cold. That 250r is really great on the Lowman Loop, so hope to see you out there.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

@tjdmobile - Yeah I see what you are saying and I do agree with you completely, I was originally going to get a Yamaha fz6r, then decided to get a 650r, then doing more research and watching videos I have heard that sometimes switching to something that powerful is not as easy and it can be more difficult to ride. This would be my first real summer riding as I don't even have my license yet (Will get it hopefully either sometime this winter or spring) So I think I want to go with the 250 not only because of the looks but because I want to start off small. Maybe if I get the urge for more I will upgrade for sure, but for now my goal is to get me a 250 because it is more cheep and therefore Insurance and other costs will be cheeper and I can tune it to suit myself rather then having the intention of re-sale value.

But I do appreciate your opinion and I agree completely, just for now I will settle with the 250.

Also I will definitely love to ride with you along as the other guys next summer! I still don't have my license so most of the riding I do now is either in the back of the sub division or just around the home area just to practice.

go get your permit, I think it's only $11 and you can ride without worries. Just can't ride on the Interstate or after dark, but it sure beats getting a ticket for not having anything.

Plenty of good riders on this forum to ride with you and learn from. Welcome.

just an idea, get a 650r or an sv650, we can help you detune it until you are ready for more. Then you only have to buy one bike, and the twin cylinder engines are always going to be the cheapest to insure. One of the reasons I still have a vtwin.
Thom, what was the insurance difference between the 250 and the 650?

Well, for my 38 year old geezer butt with no speeding tickets, accidents, full coverage added about $40 per year.

Damn, grandpa... almost a dollar for each year. I'm surprised it even went up more than $20.

I dropped my deductible to zero on comp, $100 on collision (previously $500 on both), roadside assist (if I have cell coverage, ha!). The increase in CCs had little affect.
