I Ride: a damn cop magnet

Larry Miller Subaru Boise

I want to give a shout out to Larry Miller Subaru on Fairview. They recently took in my STi for what appeared to be a bad fuel injector. They did roughly a 1000 dollars worth of work to figure out what was wrong with it. Sidenote, this car is still under warranty. At which point they made every attempt to make me pay for the tear down process because my warranty company denied the burnt valves.

After a few angry phone calls, Chris trying to fight the service guy, threats of lawsuits and bombs, Subaru came around and did the right thing. They, as a dealership, not my warranty company, paid for the entire tear down, paid to fix burnt valves, piston rings, a new clutch, flywheel resurfacing, machining work on the head, a new timing belt, new drive belts and had it done in a week. My cost 150 plus the clutch parts.

Big thanks to these guys for doing the right thing and keeping me from blowing the damn place up.

This being said, I havent picked my car up or driven it, so Im not calling off the hit just yet

I am at work so I had to type fast..heres the rest of the story..

When they called me before they really tore into it, I was re-assured, more than once, that it was paid for. I told them that if they got to any point where it wasnt covered, stop and call me. The arguement that ensued was that the parts guy had told me there was a chance it would cost X amount of dollars if it wasnt covered, except he didnt. It was made clear to me that everything they were doing that day was paid for. Then I got a bill and a half torn apart car on a flatbed.

My Chris (bungeeguy) was my Army when I went in there.

Chris (the service guy) seems cool.

Don is their service manager and he hooked me up and took care of everything.

I really have nothing good to say about that stealership.
Had an eclipse that was giving me issues. Should have been under warranty. They never did find the real problem and then tried to tell me that I would have to pay for the work.
Needless to say, I traded the car in the car and swore off mitsubishi as long as that was the only dealer in town.

I Ride: Victory Kingpin, The Harley is deceased :(

I had a friend whose windshield washer went out on his Evo after 3 months of owning it (bought new). Because he raced autocross on the weekends they refused to replace the washer pump under warranty because he raced the car. Hmmmm...that parking lot racing sure is hard on the washer pumps, must be all of the
G's pulled in the corners!

Rokkit, didn't you get that with an extended warranty, or something along those lines? Thought the car was a few years old when ya got it, but I don't recall exactly what year it is.

I bought an extended warranty. It will be two years in september that Ive owned it. Its an 07 w/ 75k miles.

Some of what they did was "preventive'. The clutch was still ok for a few miles, timing belt would have lasted for a while, drive belts were getting a little warn. The Burnt valves and Piston rings are unfortunitly an STi epidemic.

I had good luck with the service department there. don was stand up when I had a set of the advans on my second evo wear out at the 2k mark. it was due to a faulty alignment and he fought to get me replacements..
always had my oil changes there with both evo's and was more than happy with them...

now the sales department is another story. went in with a blank check to buy my second evo('06 evo9). no trade, just a check. I knew that I could buy one from south coast mitsu in cali for $27988 no bs out the door price. they had a red one on the lot. I told them I'd offer them $28600 to save me the airfare/gas/hotel. the salesman was looking me up one side and down for pulling in driving my old '78 ford f150 worktruck. he went back, came out 5 minutes later and told me to have a nice flight... so I did. first oil change, chris didn't recognize the car and asked me where I got it. told him the story and next thing I know I was telling it to Don. not sure if it went anywhere, but I won't buy a car there again.... just service....

You don't get rich by being nice. They are just carrying on the tradition for the next generation of A$$hats.

That's pretty funny. I had the exact same experience (also in 2006). I wanted them to order an STI in the color package I wanted. All they had to do was place the order, but they told me is was MSRP plus the "market adjustment" or nothing. Called up South Coast Subaru, they ordered the car, I flew down and drove the car back.

On the other hand, when I wanted to add an SPT intake and exhaust they had the best price and did a good job with the install.

So Sales -1 and Service
