| Elk City?
I am new to this form and I think it's great. I hope I am posting this in the right place. I just started a new job and they were not impressed when I asked for a week off. So I am trying to get as much of a ride in as possible in three days. I am thinking of leaving Twin early Friday AM and going up to Stanley to Banks to Grangeville or Orofino on day one, then on to Missoula area on day two and, back home through Salmon on day three. This will make day two a short one so I am looking for side trips of alternative ideas. Does anyone know anything about Highway 14 to Elk City? Paved? Is it worth taking? Any other ideas such as good routes, good eats along the way, or good places to stay would be great. Thanks as always.

excellent there and back ride. I've only done the stretch btw SH-13 and Mt. Idaho Grade Rd due to time constraints. However, have had talks with riders who've been to Elk City. The Lolo Pass Loop from/to Boise is 780 miles via 55-93-13-12-93-75 and 21. Not sure about miles from/to Twin Falls. Another loop is Grangemont Rd/SH-11 btw Orofino and Greer. That's on my to-do list. There was an article written about it in Friction Zone. I've heard that Selway Road is a nice ride south of Lowell. It's paved for the first few miles. At Lost Trail Pass you can cut east a couple of miles for a photo op at Chief Joseph Pass at the Cont'l Divide. | |
