I Ride: Ktm 620 Dual-sport

8/2 - dual sport - Hawley mnt. lookout

Thursday evening ride up Bogus Basin rd. to Boise Ridge rd. north to Harris Creek Summit and continuing north to Hawley mnt & the lookout at 7300ft. Return route to be determined with the option to backtrack or head west to Horseshoe Bend & hwy.55 or Pearl rd.

Meet for 5:00 at Highlands Elementary school - 1st stop sign north of Hill rd. off Bogus Basin rd. Turn right at sign & school is on the right. KSU 515. Dirt-only riders can meet at the Nordic Center up at Bogus (this is on the right side of the road about a 1/2 mile after pavement ends) around 545.

Yeah, good ride!

Did you take a GPS waypoint at the location we last stopped to follow the dirt road towards Horseshoe Bend? It finally emerged from the woods but didn't clear up, it was getting late & so we retreated never knowing if we were on the right route. Lots of terrain to explore out there.

Didn't encounter any sand up in the trees so you're good to go. The only sand I saw was on a turn or two while still in the foothills.

Knobby, I can't find time this weekend but perhaps next.

Thanks Mike, you took some really nice pics.

Seems we were on the right track - Porter Cr. rd. per the Google Earth path I sent to you. You can see where we reached following the path to just past the tight switchback just after we got out of the trees and it opened up on foothills sage. I'm not sure but at some point ahead, the elevation might drop fairly sudden . Another ride will tell.
