I Ride: 2007 R1 | Off to Vegas for 3 weeks
I get to go TDY to Nellis to teach for 3 weeks; In August; on the flight line. Should be nice and warm. Not Bahrain, Qatar, or Jordan hot, but pretty damm close. The new BT-003RS I just put on just might melt.......... Anyone know of good spots to ride down there? I am thinking Lake Mead.... |

I think it is called the Valley of Fire state park. Look it up and do a ride through there. Awesome scenery and the roads were semi twisty. Only problem with it is the Parkies watch for speeders pretty close. Not a place to blast through, but a cool ride. Sorry, "cool" as in fun, not temps. Have fun! |

I Ride: 2007 R1 | It does not stop
You are right on Mr. SandM! I went out last night, first night here, and it was still 90* at 9:45PM! Went on a little ride with one of the locals today. 145 miles and just got back to base. 107* right now. Just finished one beer, feeling better, as I sit in the A/C! |

Did you ride all way there or did you haul it? If you rode how was the ride long and boring?

yea, i'd like to know how the ride is if you didn't trailer it. would love to ride down, but don't think it would be that great except the twisties coming out of ely, but they are very heavily patrolled.. |

I Ride: 2007 R1 | Bike in back of truck
I really do not like riding my R1 much over 300 miles at a time. I have some nice loading ramps, so in the back of the truck it went. I am sure I would have hated to ride From Mtn. Home to here on my bike. Rode up to Mt. Charleston today at noon. Left Vegas, it was 100. Got toward the middle of the ride, it was 80-ish. Felt NICE. Not the riding like we have though. I would WAY rather be between Idaho City and Lowman than in Vegas. I have a few more spots to check out, but I dont see it being better than a good ride to Lowman or HSB! I will have to see what I can find here. |

Mt Charleston is another ride that we talked about doing when we were down there but didn't. If you get a chance, at least do the Valley of Fire in an A/C'd cage. Nice scenery. |

I Ride: 2007 R1 | Streets suck!
Man, the surface of the streets here are total CRAP! Its like they have a permanent oily covering or something. Everywhere. Every time I come to a stop, when I put my foot down, it is slick. No mater where I stop, left part, right part or middle of the lane, dont matter. THE WHOLE STREET IS SLICK! Kinda shoots the confidence is the arse, ya know? Headed to Hoover dam soon, but looking forward to getting back on Aug 22. |

The "Red rock loop" might be the Valley of Fire that I was talking about. Have fun and keep the AC turned up...er, nevermind. | |

I Ride: 2007 R1 | The good side of being old
Getting to drive (and put the bike in the truck) is one of the FEW benafits of being an "old guy" I have been in the Air Force over 20 years, and get to do a few cool things now. Red Rock loop is an 11 mile, one way paved road, just a little wider than the green belt. It is thru a state park that is a great view of some cliffs that are made of Red color rock. Kinda cool. The speed limit is 35, but the local squids go thru there at about 60. And if they good off the road, they are kinda screw'd. Hey Duckiller, bring shorts! It is HOT even at night. Have fun, I am! Oh and if you pick up a new bike and need it brought back, let me know. I have room in the truck. |
