I Ride: Blue '07 Yamaha FZ6

Cool Anyone for a ride this Saturday?

I want to get out of the house with all of this nice weather lately. Is anyone interested in going for any kind of a ride this Saturday 3/6/10? I don't know when or where since I'm new to this group stuff. Lowman loop maybe (I've never been). Any suggestions/interest? I'm in downtown Boise.

I'm up for it, will have to wait and see what the weather will be doing. Would be interested in leaving Boise around noon.

I am definitely there screw homework. Scharf found a really good route. Its fun both backwards and forwards. Come on weather. Well channels 6, 7, and 12 all say 52, 53, and 54 partly cloudy. Then you have those crazy bastards at channel 2 saying 44 and rain. could go either way. Liltribute do you have a permit?

Not yet, gonna wait till I take star class so my insurance is cheaper. Plus, I have to work. It sucks, but my two days off are Mon and Tues. How do I get a permit anyway? And what are the "limits" with the permit? Couldn't find out any info on this.

Just go to the DMV and take a written test. Permit is good for 6 months, no freeway/passangers/night riding.

I Ride: without limits

Did Map Rock/Lake Lowell with Grumbler on Tuesday. Roads were in good shape for this time of year, just the usual sand and gravel issues. It was a nice day, a little windy and still trying to see Marsing as a scenic destination!?
Oh well!

Sweet! I just might have to do it in a couple days (Fri). Is the test fairly easy (common sense) or should I really study up for it?

I'm getting to be fairly comfortable. I ride to the gas station every now and then to get some experience. I'm still not too sure of higher speeds just yet, but have gotten it up to 55, lol. If I can get my permit, I'm down for a ride on Saturday, just have to be to work in Boise by 4:30. I would also need time to go home to get my suv, . But don't count me in just yet because I'm not 100% sure I will be able to get my permit on Friday. It also depends on whether or not the wife will let me go.

Since I know it's coming, I'll do it first, lol

Just FYI for anyone considering Lowman. I was up there last weekend and the roads are nowhere near rideable. Sand, water, mud, rocks... You name it and it was on the road. Also, hit a good bit of snow south of IC. I'd say the loop is a good month or so from being rideable at least.

Alright. Well if there are no objections, maybe we can meet at the Chevron on Broadway.

Map rock is Okay, but have been out there couple of times already, over too quick. I was thinking of making the run over into Emmett. lots of curves. Lower elevation than Lowman, should be clear.

How long a ride is Emmett? Is it a ride that's okay for people who are new to curves? I'm fine with Emmett if it's okay for those people like myself. Haha.

I like that thought. How long do you think it would take round trip? Again, meet at Chevron @ 12, leave at 12:30.

the curves are not nearly what you would find up by Lowman, but what I really like is those hills coming into and out of Horseshoe, at interstate speeds.

Uhhh....? Sorry to be uneducated, but I have not done any riding other than in Boise and on the freeway in Boise. So, could you elaborate please? Thanks.

The road through Horseshoe Bend to Emmet is a great ride for beginer to intermediate riders as the curves are nice and long...I guess sweeping would be a good adjective... they don't force you to really throw your bike on its side with your knee scraping to get around but instead you can keep up highway speeds and not feel like your riding over your head. And the bonus is that good number of cars drive it daily and so any sand or gravel should be scrubbed off to the sides or at the very least in the center on the lines.

Okay. That's exactly what I needed to know. Thanks a lot! Well that sounds good. Let's do the Emmet or Emmet/Map Rock combo. Which is preferred?

Thanks Mikey, I was wondering how to explain it.

If you combined the rides, there would be a lot of interstate between nampa and eagle road.

If there are some roads that would be worth the trip between those 2 routes, feel free to chime in.

Ummm I think an Emmet/Map rock is a kind of a hard combo. Coming back from Emmet puts you north of Meridian and just east of Star. Map Rock is Southwest of Lake Lowell. So you'd have to run across the valley just to hit Map Rock which is only about what 10 to 15 miles of twists, then it's pretty straight out to Marsing. But hey it's up to you guys...Hell if I can get a chance I may even try and make it.

The trip around horseshoe to Emmet is a decant enough ride...Maybe 70 miles...so after that I usually just mob around town for a few then head home.

I might be able to pry myself away from homework to do an emmett/ black canyon ride. Its my favorite ^_^ Also from the sounds of it there will be noobs on this ride which makes me happy, so long as you are well behaved noobs. I want to go slow (well, slower then matt) and enjoy the ride . I live in se boise, I could meet on broadway or floating feather cheveron in eagle. Or both if someone wanted to meet in boise first. Not sure if matt's up to it yet tho, he's still dealing with back pain.

well you could just come to my house, then where is everyone else coming from? usual meeting place is floating feather chevron. which is at floating feather and hwy 55, by eagle. then could hit some lunch in Emmett. I am open to ideas for that one.

Haha. Well at this point it's up to you experienced people. I will go with whatever and obviously you all know best. Lets still meet at the Chevron mentioned earlier at 12:00pm and leave at 12:30pm and go from there if that's okay.
