I Ride: 2009 Yamaha R6 | July 14-16 ride through lolo pass
A few of us will be going on a LONG RIDE from Boise to Salmon to LoLo and Grangeville and then back home. If you are interested, lets go!!! Most of you know how to get in touch w/ us, so just let us know if you want to go to. I think we may also do a 1/2 day rafting trip in Riggins on the last day before heading home (approx $54), tentatively, for those that may want to do that too. ![]() ![]() Last edited by ChrisXAppleSauce; 07-08-2010 at 01:22 PM. |

Fantastic. I get all shy and introverted when I'm "freeballing" by myself!

Let me see if I got this right. Day#1: Boise to Grangeville for night. Day#2: Optional 1/2 day rafting trip then over to Missoula for night. Day#3: Missoula to Boise via Grangeville. Is that correct?

Lolo to Boise in one day is a disaster. IE: Opposite of fun. I'd suggest a Boise to Salmon = 5hr 20min, Salmon to Grangeville= 5hr 20min Grangeville to Boise= 4 hours Might make alot more sense to do the route counter clockwise and then take the rafting trip when we wake up in Grangeville, as raft trips start early and you might not want to do it after a 5 hour ride. |

Counterclockwise sounds great. Those roads near Salmon were crap last weekend though, just have to be cautious. Are there places to stay in Salmon? Things to do that afternoon/night? I figure hit some hotsprings in LoLo on Thursday before getting to Grangeville or Riggings. The Super 8 and Gateway in Grangeville are decent, the Gateway is totally remodeled and said if we get a bottom floor we can park our bikes in the room...lol. I haven't looked at the places yet in Riggins, but that might be better for rafting as Rafting is in Riggins, either 9 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. and lasts 3 hours. I say 9:00 a.m. trip so we can then eat lunch and be on our way for the remaining 4 hours ride. Last edited by ChrisXAppleSauce; 06-30-2010 at 09:23 AM. | |

I Ride: 2009 Yamaha R6 | You turkey, look at the thread....July 14 (wednesday) through the 16 (Friday), short and sweet and the only time we can while kids are away at summer camp! I'm sure we can squeeze in one more day, but I would need to figure out who is picking up the kids from camp.

Hey, I'm in for this trip. New to this board, but looking for a longer trip this summer. I'll probably link in a bit more at the end as I have that weekend to work with as well. But count me in for the Boise to Salmon & Salmon to Grange legs. If anyone wants to add another leg or two on at the end on Sat/Sun you can count me in for that as well. I'm out for rafting... too much gear to carry :0) Where is the gather place on the 14th? |

We've done Lolo Pass as an overnighter a few times. Usually clockwise as dealing with congestion on southbound 55 in the afternoon blows. Yeah, ever trying riding btw Round Valley jct and HSB at night? We did, and got badzillions of insects all over our bikes and gear. Try seeing the curves through bug splattered shields with oncoming cager lights blinding you. Not an experience to be savored. ;^P''' As for motels, see www.motelguide.com for list of mom and pop motels in those towns unless into spending big bucks at the chain motels. As for packing stuff, I've done fine with a small dufflebag held by cargo net on pillion. Can always turn your underwear inside out for the next day. ;^) |

Hotel reservations made in salmon and grangeville, PC if you want the info to book. Fairly reasonable mom and pop shops.

Hey, Where did you guys make reservations in Salmon & Grangeville? I see mention of Super 8 and Gateway above but couldn't find a definitive choice... just let me know so I can book as well. I'm considering continuing the loop up through Coeur d'Alene on 17-19 in case anyone else is interested. I am a bit worried that my ass will permanently fall asleep, but I've been trying to plan a 5 day loop this summer to prepare for this fall, but more on that next week. Also invited a couple riding buddies Jeff/Dave to join, but mid-week ride may be tuff for them to schedule. Looking forward to it... and I thought that might be Lynn, stoked to see him again! It's been waaay too long since we had some fun together. Late eS |

21 is a little rough between IC and lowman. A ot of beat up road in the corners. We hit sand in one corner in that stretch. Lowman to stanley was pretty good. Stanley to challis the road was good other than a few rocks, and there is one spot almost on a corner, That is a big sqaure of loose gravel. There is a sign that says road construction ahead, but then you see nothing. Then all of the sudden there is a sign that says loose gravel motorcycles use caution. The sign is literally right ontop of the patch of gravel. not much warning on it so be prepared, It caught me off gaurd on the way up. Other than that the roads as far as challis were pretty good
