boise motorcycle police

just a heads up just got back from the lowman loop and saw 5 bike cops. 3 in one group 2 in another. looked like to me they were just out on" training" from my perspective they seem to be moveing at a spirited rate . i saw them on 21 just befor the switch backs so could be anywhere.

Well, It's not training. Number of people got pulled over for tickets including myself. I got mine going down the Summit toward Lowman passed Idaho City. They say the Sheriff is done with the amount of motorcycle accidents recently and cracking down on anyone speeding. We passed two Harley's who got tickets, then me, and next a high speed chase heading toward Lowman. The high speed chase was just 15 min late cause I wouldn't have gotten my ticket. Two trucks and 3 motorcycle cops! This guy is done! Anyway the cop said they will be out for next couple of weekends and they are all over the loop. Two more groups were on the way to Lowman according to the officer. So avoid the area or stay 5 UNDER the speed limit! Boise City, State Troopers, and Local will be out there.

Yeah, there were 3 in a group between IC and Lowman around MM61. Then a group of 2 down between Loman and GV, right before the dirt embankments with chain link fence on the side. They were staked out on the side of the road, hitting people with radar.

When I rolled back through, the GV group was still hanging out in the same spot but the MM61 group was gone.

On a different note, looked like a cruizer may have gone over the edge near the bottom of lucky peak dam. A couple cruizers were parked by the edge, and rescue was reppeling over the edge. Hope their ok.

Glad I skipped it, don't want a ticket. Looks like the loop will be screwed up for some time.

Agreed!

Yet I wonder, does the revenue generated from the tickets equal the lost revenue when the harassed bikers choose a different loop to take?

Usually see "failed to negotiate curve" in police reports. I recall almost
going off a narrow road near Timothy Lake in Oregon once. Had just
averted a deep fissure in that road, and was checking my left mirror
to see if my bud missed it, too, and looked-up just in time to avoid
plunging into the river!

Last summer 3 Canadian riders on HDs were on SH-21 near Robie Creek
when one of them went down. The rider just ahead of him left his eyes
on his mirror too long, and ran off the road which cost him his life.

I personally think that some crashes on group rides can be attributed to
leaving eyes on mirrors too long. Ditto for prolonged head checks.

Boise County has limited resources, and whenever someone wrecks their
bike out there, it costs them manpower, et al. Am sure they'd rather
write tickets than dispatch LEOs, Paramedics, Wrecker, and clean-up
the mess left on road. They also have to investigate the accident and
write a report. They're pretty much fed-up with it.

If a motoryclist goes down due to colliding with a deer or elk, that's one
thing, but if it's from using SH-21 as a racetrack then that pisses 'em
off.

Anyone want to go downtown with me? Since all the cops are targeting our only fun road in the area, I'm going downtown to do a stoppy at every light, wheelie out of every light, split lanes, ride on the sidewalks, and maybe spin the rear tire around a bid, should be a helluva good time.

Ya, I hear ya there.

Devil's advocate though; How many bikes you figure make that run on any given weekend during the summer? How many of them crash? <1%?

I wonder if their heavy enforcement will really slow people down...

As to the percentage of bikes that crash, would probably have to check
with the Boise County Sheriff at their offices in Idaho City to determine
how many wrecks they average per week. It's hard to say how many
bikes are actually on SH-21 btw Idaho City and Lowman as that data
will flunction.

It's safe to ssume that the number of wrecks and complaints about
aggressive riding has forced them to bring in the BPD motocops.

There might be a way to get around that heavy enforcement if you know
what time their shift starts. The earlier you're out there, the better. The
later, the higher the chances of getting a ticket.

I Ride: The Armageddon, Orange Crush

My dad was a Boise County Deputy for 8 years and is now a Paramedic there. Every time I visit him he is telling me of last weekends bike wreck. Lots of cruisers crash up there, no doubt, but it is the numerous wreckless drving/speeding/illegal passing complaints in addition to the bike wrecks that get the crosshairs put on sportbikes.

I am hesitant to post the time I was riding between Lowman and IC yesterday as I personally know of at least one Ada Co. Deputy that scans this site, but I saw no LEO's on the road.
I had previously seen the 3 Boise City M/C cops with their radar out before noon between Mores Creek Summit and Lowman on the way to Stanley.

I agree w/ Grumbler. If you pay attention to what time of day you are riding, you may be able ti minimize your chances of getting bit.

But like I said, there are no secrets once it gets posted on the "information superhighway"!!

Well GEM STATE I glanced down at my speedometer that said 82kph since my bike is from over seas and can't transfer to Mph so I thought we were doing about 40ish mph. He said it came to 52 about 5 over the speed limit we though maybe the worse. However, he stated we must have missed the sign where it dropped to 35mph and on the way back I never saw the sign but I just let it go. We just passed over the summit passed the turns going down a str8 and even waved to the cops. We really didn't think we were doing anything wrong.
