Guess you're going to have to make the front door wider now.

I knew he wanted it just like I want specialist...didn't know he was working on it or doing anything special to get it

I'm not going to widen the door...I'll wait till he can't fit through it anymore then give him a tent in the front yard and have the kids put out his food

So that makes you what, a PFC on active duty, or maybe a private in the Marines, of course that does equal a captain in the air force so it's all good

Nice!

Sgt is E-5 for you guys right? That should be a decent pay raise, though I have never seen your pay chart.
How do you Army folks make rank? Written tests? Performance evaluations? I have heard a few things but dont really know for sure.

We take two 100 questions test and our performance reports make up a bit of the total score also.

I am just a lowlife E-7 in the Air Force. Its great to be in the Air Force because we get the nice tents when we deploy. They usually dont have holes in them, almost scorpion proof. Usually..........

I think somone has the wrong idea of us Air Force types.

They do and it reflects worse on the Air Guard. I know I know, most people don't even consider us military but we do the same training and have a lot of the same standards (We are just more chill and have civilian jobs). All I know is I still press my uniform and you can cut your self on my pressed edges. I shine my boots and still follow every order in 36-2903. I do my job as good or better than any active duty Power Pro troop. I don't require respect but don't treat me like ###t, otherwise, I'll put you where you really belong. On the damn floor you ignorant bum.

Congrats again Bailey and enjoy the extra lil cash at the end of the month and more so on your upcoming deployment

yes E-5 is SGT for us. to get promoted we have to submit a packet containing college courses atended, PFT, rifle marksmenship, military schools attended, and the evaluations of 3 SGT's in charge of the individual.
then it all gets turned into points and put on a promotion list that covers the whole state.
then if you are on the top of the list or like in my case you put down enough miles that you are willing to travel in order to get a promotion, then you get it.

From what I hear the air force promotes based on what you know and the army promotes based on how long you have been in. Kinda jacked up but whatever

Which side do you think is jacked up? Seems to me that it makes sense to promote based on time served *if* you have the knowledge to go along with it. I definitely see positives in drawing from both sides.

I look at it like this. I remember we would get in fresh butter bars, and let me tell you those ###kin morons wouldnt know their ###hole from a balloon knot. Yes they could tell you anything and everything in any Army manual that you could ask. 90% of the time absolutely no common sense what so ever. More importantly they had no idea how to shoot from the hip. The only good ones I ran across were prior enlisted that went officer, which is how an officer should be made. I honestly think promoting based on time served is a damn fine idea but should include knowledge too. And every once in a while good ol fashion gut instinct, which is removed somewhere in officer candidate training. That is why you will never see an officer sitting on a promotion board. Sorry I hate officers.

My dad was enlisted gone officer regardless of that he still lacks common sense but he is knowledgable about what he did and did it well. I just feel that there should be room for the "exception". I went to AIT with people that were my same rank the F*cked off, didnt study, barely passed, had FTR's ect...but then you have those that try and help others, that do the right thing, that study and truely care to learn a skill that have to wait just as long as the f*cktards to get bumped up to the next rank. Yea it kinda chaps my hide. Before I even went to basic I started takin corrispondence courses for promotion point even though they dont do shiot for me till Im going from E4 to E5. I graduated with people that slept in class and barely passed but when they get promoted its not because of what they know rather than how long they have been in. I think its great the air force tests for rank. Im just saying there are exceptions that should be made for people who take initiative and care about their skill and what it does for the whole. Im sure it would be difficult for anyone to watch someone screw off or sham out of their obligations and stand right next to them when you both get promoted just because they have been as long as you despite the fact you do more or take your job more seriously or know more about what your skill is. I dont have to like it I just have to play by the rules.

Calm down katnip I am with you and I agree with what you are saying. Sometimes the ###holes get through as they always do. That is where you have to have faith in the ones sitting on the board and hope that they have the experience to see past just the numbers. Dont worry those ###ktards will get weeded out its called natural selection.

I Ride: None, Why you selling yours?
kat: we do test
e4-e5 promotion board...all the 1sgt's in battalion grill you on all the info that is in Army regs and manuals

e5 to e6: promotion board...same thing you appear in person with class A on...and get grilled for like 1 hour...all tons of worthless crap.

plus...you get points from commander for job performance
weapons qual
AFPT
Military ed
Civialian ed

all of these things lead up to your cutoff score. e5 is capped at like 699 ( I had 680)

e6 is 799( I had 750)

this is all active duty btw...nasty girls...no idea...that ###t makes no sense...i seen 45 year old pvts

now for E7 8 and 9. its all done at a centralized promotion board. they look at your NCOER, and all the things mentioned above. alos you have to attend and pass 3 schools. PLDC (E5) BNCOC (E6) and ANCOC for E7. If you are lucky and get selected for e9...you go to Ft Bliss fo SGMA.

yeah the Air Farce...gets to take a written test...but remember the Army is geared for 11c and those guys...Some of them are dumb as ###t...cant even read much less pass a written test ( LOve to E11c)

ps...no one ever gave me any rank...I took it. the only thing they can give you is primary zone or secondary zone chances. ie time in grade. at a certain point they have to let you go to the board wether they want to or not.

I promoted based on a few rules.
1.Be where you are supposed to be at the right time and in the right uniform
2. When in charge...TAKE CHARGE!
3. KNOW the regs...they are all punitive...none are in your favor. If you know the rules no one can screw you over!

I made e4 in 12 months in service, e5 with 18, e6 in 36. thants right before my first enlistment was up. IT CAN BE DONE. OH and go be a DSgt. It will make your career.

zed

Hey we didnt need to read with the speak and spell they issued us.

I made 4 in 12 but with the infantry they made us sit at corporal for a while to earn our stripes. It seems to be a lot more tradition based practice in the infantry compared to other MOSs. That includes the hazing. But what does it matter he is promoted enjoy the pay off bliz.

Some people don't have to try - for some it just comes naturally...like in the case of this "guy."
