| Any Secrets To Stand Up Wheelies?
anyone have any "must know" secrets/techniques to help me with my standup wheelies. I have gotten better at my sit down ones.... half the time i can keep it at a good height and keep it up till its tacked out. I just seem to have a little trouble with the order i guess... sometimes i start out standing up ... some times i try standing as the bike rises... just need to get a better feel for it. and maybe the answer is just practice makes perfect,,,,, but if not gimme some feedback , then lets go try it out |

holy crap do not listen that first vid on how high to have your revs, youll loop it for sure! start out staggered in first gear going about 20mph and clutch it up from about 4k rpms then go from there and practice, practice, practice. DONT FORGET TO COVER YOUR REAR BRAKE AT ALL TIMES!!! |

I don't have passenger pegs, but the guys that ride staggered, Bailey, Seth, Reckless... all those stunters ride the hell out them that way. I'm not a stunter and cannot even imagine being on one wheel at 5mph So I give them major props. What I do- 1st gear- No idea where my tach is- I usually do it by sound or by feel. 1st gear I'll start moving- my guess would be around 30mph. I'll stand up let off the gas. Engine braking will make the nose dive and as soon as that happens I'll crack the gas. If you're clutching, you may want to push down on the forks (for the love, don't tap your front brake to get the nose to dive though). Best advice like Bailey said is to practice. You'll get the feel for what is comfortable for you. Also, have a steady throttle hand. Your wheelie should NOT sound like an accelerating bike. Your bike will accelerate naturally, but you should not hit your redline in 1 second. Starting out if you modulate the throttle to get a feel for the BP, but quickly try to adapt to holding a steady RPM. Be safe and have fun |

The best advice is to progress slowly, take your time and practice a lot. Start off by doing power wheelies where you run your bike up to the higher end of the rev limit. If you start off immediately trying to get it on the balance point your very likely to loop it out. They are addicting |

I'm definitely no pro but I have been working on wheelies quite a bit recently and doing pretty ok as far as I'm concerned ![]() The F4i was a lot easier but then again but it might just be that I'm scared of my 1000... which I am. For standups; I have always stood up before I bring the front wheel off the ground. I'm doing pretty much what Nick stated he does... I start accelerating slightly; as soon as I feel powerband start kicking in; I drop the throttle; forks compress and then I crack the throttle open. It brings the nose up nice and smooth. As for using the clutch to get it up; I have no problems with that sitting down. I can clutch it right up; but for whatever reason when I'm wanting to do a standup and actually stand up on the bike... just doesn't play nice ![]() |

DO not do first gear!!!!! to much rpm will loop you to tall of a gear... but just stager yourself and pratice like buggie said run it till the end till you become more comfertable with them and start learning how to use the rear brake to control you. like you have seem me... but alll in all it take pratice, practice, pratice... you may loop out trying hard but it is part of the game your playing with. In my oponion go get a fifty and practice on it for brake control and throutle control!!!!!! Any other question's? |

I am in the same position as you djshwilly. I would like to start practicing my standups a lot more. I can do the first gear power wheelie sitting down and ride it out for a while but that's where my experience stops. I'd like to learn how to clutch them up better. I've had a few good ones using clutch but for the most part clutching a wheelie up seems too difficult for me. One thing I did realize from a few close calls is that if this is really something I want to do then I have to know that looping it is a very real possibility and every time I go out I realize that it could happen. If you aren't okay with that reality then fear will hold you back for sure.Any time you want to go out and practice hit me up. Might be nice to have a session with some of the more experienced riders sometime soon. I'd be down for that for sure. |

most people cant just start doing 2nd gear wheelies josh i myself and im sure many other people started doing them in first it took me a couple months to get a standup down pact when i first started doing wheelies i clutched it then almost ate shiot a few times let alone a few tank slaps from getting scared then i started doing power wheelies started in 1ST gear ran up o about 8 grand where the power band is then chop the throttle and come up as i progressed doing that i toyed with the idea of standing up in the middle of the wheel it was a little tachy but managed to do it a couple times to get the feel of standing up while doing a wheelie then i graduated into standing up before i even brought the bike up same as the power wheelies i got up to around 8 grand still in 1ST then would chop the throttle again and come up and took me a little bit to get those down to balance point before i wrecked at idaho city i had 2nd gear down in 2nd gear i always seemed like i had to bounce on the front end to get it come up but just practice and feel comfortable with what ur doing some people will try and tell u how to wheelie but if its not comfortable to you dont do it i for one hate the staggerd feet just feels goofy to me looks badass as hell just dont feel right but anywho just practice practice pratice and yes do cover the brake but dont stab on it if u feel like your going over ur boys will thank u later

I was messing around this morning and sort of found the sweet spot doing a sit down wheelie most of the time I pop it up then drop it right back down. WORK IN PROGRESS. stand ups are another story I have a hard enough time doing sit downs...

After looking that the crash video (which will b up sometime today) looks like you were going to do a stand up but then you sat back down and you sat far back which accelerated the front wheel up and over. For example, sitting it a reclining chair and leaning back then the whole thing flips over |

but i will agree doing st gear power wheelie's are good but not one to try going out and getting to balance point as fast as you can and ride it! you know what i mean? it may of came out wrong but owell i get kind of tired of trying to help people when most of you know i have alot of pratice under my belt and can control it! then I get so many other "ways" of doing it which is fine to each there own... But when a guy that is a tad bit more experanced then you, try not to argue with them as to how to do something they have mastered or whatever you wanna call it! I'll just keep my training skills to myself since you know i DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING BUT YET CAN RIDE AT WHATEVER SPEED WHEELIE YOU ARE TRAVELING AT!!!!!!! | |
