Re: need some advice

I would say ask R1DON. If anyone can wheelie a ZX10 it's that guy. There are some decent how to vids on Youtube also.

I think it may have been the "lol" that lead him to believe it was sarcasm. I don't know, just saying...

Re: need some advice

the lol was for the "oh shit factor" that he will get from hitting the balance point so quick. or maybe for when he racks his nuts on the tank when he chops the throttle.

No, I think he is looking to learn standups...

Can you hold a decent sitdown yet? I would personally suggest starting with a 1st gear roll on throttle sitdown wheelie to get comfortable with the sensation of getting the wheel up and closer to the balance point. I suggest sitdown power ups while learning for a few reasons: 1.) You won't get the sling shot effect and go past your "comfort zone" with a power up wheelie as apposed to a clutch up. 2.) When standing up and bouncing on the pegs the bike will come up much faster due to the preload of the front suspension and your weight being shifted to the rear of the bike before you even give it power. This can be difficuly to manage when learning. 3.) Although I think you have more control of the bike in a standup wheelie position a sitdown wheelie is actually more stable and predictable for a beginner because your body inputs in the sitdown position have a lot less effect on the bike when compared to the standup position. Most of us know that "butterflys in your stomache" feeling when you first start doing wheelies, even when the wheel is only an inch or so off the ground. One thing that helped me to get used to that feeling in relation to the balance point was to realize that if you can still see over the front of the bike (in a sitdown) you are not anywhere close to the balance point.

That said if you still want to learn on standups the only way to really slow the accent of your bike in the wheelie is to start them in second gear. Your bike is a liter like mine so that means that you will be somewhere around 60-80mph or higher when pulling them up. Another reason I suggest learning a sitdown first and getting comfortable with what the bike feels like when it gets light and throttle management. If the bike feels like it is rocketing up in the first gear sitdown powerups try lowering your RPMs a bit and working on technique. I know we are wheelie spoiled on our 1 liters because of the power, but sometimes it makes it harder because they come up a lot faster

Other than that head out to SC with everyone when they go stuntin and just watch and practice a little. I learned a lot just watching other people when I started. My bike is in the shop, but hopefully I will be out there within a couple of weeks Just my

Re: need some advice

Just to clarify... I was not advocating doing a wheelie at 90mph when trying to learn. I was trying to make the case for starting in 1st gear and with power ups, not clutch ups. For someone that doesn't know where the balance point is a clutch up on a litre bike can be alot to handle. It's like pulling back a sling shot and letting it go without knowing how far you can actually go. Once you dump that clutch your commited no matter how much rpm you have. I clutch up my sitdowns because I am lazy and they come up faster, but I never do that with my standups because IMHO there is no need, not with a new litre bike, and not for the type of wheelies I do. Maybe slow speed stuntin is a different story, but I don't think that is what we are talking about here... And we all know that the easiest way to spot a real is by the lack of a helmet

Just my

Re: need some advice

Obviously I'm no expert and haven't quite found my balance point yet but while learning it's been easier for me to get a little over 5 thousand RPM let off and then crack the throttle, my bikes only a 750 so it's a lot different then your 1,000 but I think the learning techniques are similar. It's not a bad idea to practice covering the rear brake the whole time since your learning a new technique anyways, that way if you ever actually need it, maybe you'll be able to use it. Just my

Re: need some advice

I'm slightly worse at wheelies than I am at neurosurgery, but this video seems pretty good for a beginner:

Dude, what would you know about riding? Looking at your avatar picture you don't even know where your feet go when riding a motorcycle. They're nowhere near the pegs!
