Wheelie Question - Bike Leans

I have a small issue. I was out at SC today and for some reason my bike keeps leaning. At one point it would turn right very hard, others slowly. I know there was a little wind, but this is some serious leaning. Any ideas to what it can be?
Chat was out with me today, he saw the leaning as well. And I sit as straight as I can on the bike.

sounds like you need to do the stranger and bulk up your left arm a little more...

When I used to run the tract at PIR, my tires would wear alot on the right sides. After riding on the track, when I would pull a wheelie, the bike would try to switch lanes every time. Perhaps it is a tire issue for you too..

I've had that same issue sometimes. Not for sure, but your probably either pulling on the bars unevenly or weighting one side more than the other. Sometimes on a perticular day all my wheelies come up sideways, other days everythings straight.

Also, lowering your rear tire pressure supposedly helps stabilize the bike.

I'm sure someone adept at wheelies will be along shortly with some input.

make sure ur rear axle is perfectly straight dont use the tick marks on the side take a tape measure and use a fixed point thats on both sides. say the swing arm main bolt. get it perfectly alignes and see if that doesnt help. its something r1don showed me and my wheelies are straight as can be unless i give it other inputs or the wind hits it. but mostly comes up steaight every time

Tire pressure, wear and main grooves worn in the pavement can all cause swaying. Roads typicaly crown in the center so there is a natural tendency for the bike to sway a little to the right.

Yeah thats what Chad told me to do, which R1don told him. i shall try that out. Also, I might be pulling or doing something unbalanced. Maybe cuz 1 foot is on peg an 1 is over break.

Also, when I had my backpack on, it felt more straight. I will look into all of these suggestions. Thanks guys.

I think scout_16 is on the money... R1Don fixed my bike up and its running smoother than it ever has... As time goes you will get more comfortable with everything.. Just chill and relax and enjoy the ride..

Uhh, Well I was over at SC today, so I am guessing maybe you are correct. Plus the open field lets more wind play around then in the city. Because on my way home I was doing just fine.

Sounds like a combo of tire pressure, body position and crappy road to me.

I have heard SC pulls you around a bit. Sucks that we lost that spot out by Winco, road was a little dirty but super smooth.

Clutch or power? Are you compressing your forks at all to bring up the wheel? I know just like firing a rifle if you're waiting for the "boom" you can move slightly before the actual fire/recoil messing with your accuracy. Maybe when you're bringing up the wheel you're doing something with your arms/wrists where you've got more pressure on the right grip causing your initial wheelie to start you moving right.

My money is on the road out there though

When are you coming out to show everyone how wheelies should look?

The road out there is a crap shoot for sure. Eventually though you're gonna have to learn how to correct for drifts and turns with your body position. Unfortunately you really can't do that until you are at, or close to balance point. So, if you're not at, or close to balance point then it is most likely just the road out there drifting you and there is really not much you can do about it. Experiment a little with it.. Try the middle of the road, or the opposite side of the road. You should be able to narrow it down to something you are doing, or road surface, etc... It could be your back tire off, but that seems extremely unlikely IMHO. Again my vote goes to the road

its the road, it just sucks ass.
i can get one outta ten to be straight on that road you like to play on, thats why i dont play out there.
where the big group was the other day is a little better, but not by much.

a crooked axle is gonna have you going left or right eventually in a wheelie, not instantly like poor road/tire conditions.

I need to get out soon. I've had my front tire and new battery since early May. Tire's still in a plastic wrap from shipping and the battery is still in the box.

Someday

Hey I didnt say I can ride big straight stand ups but I know you cant either! You arent really one to give advice on non-leaning wheelies

I'd also say its the road. From my experience, 9 out of 10 times its the road. I have gotten a used tire that was worn more on one side than the other which had the bike pull a little bit to one side, but usually its the road. Ive been through many tires on the same road, and it always pulls to the right unless your in the left lane.

Nick, when are we going to see more pixs like that one, but new?!

Or use a sandbag, a sandbag doesn't cry when you don't ride it later.
