| MOM Round 1
Alright, I bet a lot of you are woundering how the current race season is going for our local racers. So here you go! I upgraded this season to a newer bike an 06 R6 because last season I would have to ride like a mad man to hang. My expectations this season is to place in the top 3 in the Novice GTU, Top 5 in the Amature GTU, Top 3 in Novice GTO, and Top 10 in Amature GTO. For those who don't know the classes, GTU is 600cc and GTO is 600-1000cc. First race Novice GTU: I was on the second row 4th spot. Green flag waved and my start was ok but not the best. By turn 6 (angony) I was in 4th right behind another local rider Tyler. I entered the turn really hot! Ran off, way off in the grass and by the time I got back on I was 3rd to last out of I think 23 riders. I said to myself " no way I'm I going to settle for this I have what it takes to win!" I put my head down and ran the SH*T out of my bike. By the way, I'm still on stock suspesion. I was passing people left and right, and everytime I did I was like " theres one, now come on next!" Its a 7 lap race. By the end I posted the fastest lap of the race, a 1min 42 sec. Thats 7 sec faster than last season I raced the East track. I finished 6th. Tyler finished 3rd, my hat off to him. Amature GTU: This is a race that involves both expert and novice racers. I started on the third row on this one. Green flag, my start was better. My starts are what kill me because for some reason I have trouble with those. I was in the top 9 after turn one. I said to myself " If I can do it on the first race, I can do it now!" I put my head down and pushed. I was running 1min 43sec. laps. Picking people off I caught up to Tyler in 5th. I made my pass and said" got Tyler now let me shorten this gap. The gap to 4th had opened up and it was hard for me to up the pace. I built an gap on Tyler and started to get closer to 4th but I was running my own race. I settled for 5th. I cant wait till next race when I will have my suspension in. Novice GTO: The same compeditors from the GTU were in this one, plus a few with 1000cc bikes. Well this is the race that turned my day to SH*T. The PA system in the garage went out and they were 15 min. ahead of scheduel. I'm sitting there and some runs in the garage and says "your race is already gridded. " No way I said its not time and there was no anouncement." Sure enough, I tried to get there in time but they were on the second lap by that time. The track official was like " They started, you can still go out there if you want." I said " no thanks I'm here to win not to ride. I'll save my tires." Tyler got fifth. Amature GTO: This race was 4hour wait for me and I was cold turkey and tired. It was the last race that day, and they put 2 differnt races on the track at the same time. Green flag, I bogged my bike. The R6 you have to launch it @ like 11,000 rpm. So people come flying by me on the start and I couldnt make any moves around anyone. The track was packed with a lot of racers. I ran off trying to pass, and ran off again. Tyler ran off too. His peg hit the ground going into a corner. At this point I just gave up and wanted to call it the day. I dont even know what I finished. I dont care. So! There you have it! I'll be there for round 2 and ready to win! I fill my time is near. |

I Ride: R6 | Re: MOM Round 1
Great story Shannon! You and Tyler did awesome. I'm glad that R6 is helping ya! It is one of the worst for starts but if you learn to do it you can fly past people. I learned to launch my 06 pretty well & in my first race I went from mid pack to front before turn 1!! You do gotta rev it high. Good luck in round 2! |

Congratulations Shannon and Tyler! I’d say you guys did a great job representing Boise. You’re so fortunate to be in a position to race this season and have this fine track available. Was there a photographer working this event? If so, can you post the link to the race pictures? Dave |
