Do you use a trailer or do you put your bike in the back of a pickup?

Re: Apex track day @ MMP Date: September 01st, 2008

Ahhh... not to , but why is the trackday thru Apex $289, but on MMP website it lists full trackday for bikes as $190? Do you have to sign up via someone such as Apex, or do you get something extra by going thru them? Or what am I missing? I'm interested in doing a trackday sometime in the future, so just curious how it works.

Re: Apex track day @ MMP Date: September 01st, 2008

If you are experienced and know whats up about about a track the MMP open trackdays are great. I use them prior to race w-ends as additional tune ups.

Apex provides control riders, riding tips, track etiquette and has tire and suspension guys there to help you with your needs. If you are new to the track I highly recommend the Apex days. Otherwise. you are flogging about on your own and your learning curve will be much steeper.

Thats what I was thinking. Considering the whole cost of a trackday trip, that would definatly be worth the extra $100 to me.

One last question, and then I'm done with the threadjack. What does a trackday trip run for most of you guys? About a grand?
I'm thinking...
Tires - $300
Trackday - $289
Hotel (2 nights) - $90
Gas/ truck (600 miles @ 20mph @ $4/Gal) - $120
Gas / Bike (4 tanks @ $15 each) - $60
Total - $859

Re: Apex track day @ MMP Date: September 01st, 2008

I usually burn through two tanks of fuel on my bike so cut that $60 in half.
I've never stayed two nights when doing a track day. I go down the night before and then drive home after the track day so that cuts down on food and lodging costs.
Unless you have track experience and expect to be pushing some real speed, there's no need to spend $300 on a set of race tires. A set of good street tires (Michelin's Pilot Power, Metzler's M3, Pirelli's Super Corsa III, etc) in decent condition is all you need. If you do buy race tires, they're good for 3 or 4 track days so its certainly not $300 every track day.

Oh, tempting.

Does anybody have experience with Red Trailers (http://www.redtrailers.com/Trailers.asp)? Their motorcycle trailer with 12" tires is only a few hundred pounds--I could probably pull that behind my car.

Not sure if ours is the same brand, but it looks just like that. It's made about a jillion trips to Miller and no issues whatsoever. My husband LOVES this little trailer! We've pulled it with an R6 on it, a Bandit 1200, a Bandit 600, a Kawi 750, a Ninja 636 (not all at the same time of course) and not ever had a problem with it.

I thought about just saying to hell with it and putting the track day on a credit card but its on a Monday so that makes it a bit more difficult.
