AZTrackday @ Firebird

So I finally got my new/used tires. Lil more than 80% tread left on them, Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa. All for the price of...FREE

And I was telling the guys down here, once I get new tires I'm hitting the track. So December 13th, I'm hitting the West Track at Firebird. Gettin a group of guys to go from down here, except they've never been to a track day before so it'll be fun. I'm actually going to see if I can start in the beginners group. This will refresh my memory of all the flags and also allow me to get the track memorized and see the lines easier.

So you track junkies n Idaho, what advice do you have for us? I've been to the track once at MMP with Hozhead. Which he taught me A LOT, or should I say all I know lol. Honestly Dave did teach me the majority of my cornering. I would always follow him and mimic his form and lines. But I put Engine Ice as my coolant...im pretty sure its not track approved, right? So what do u recommend instead? I believed I used Water Wetter before.

Thanks for the input

Correct on the Engine Ice, it isn't approved for most tracks as it is glycol based. Just mix some distilled water with the 8 caps full of water wetter and you should be good to go.

Best advice, ride at 70-80% of your ability. If there are control riders, ask one to follow you around and help with lines. They will also point out anything they see that you are doing incorrectly.

When braking come up from a tuck and sit straight up to let others know you are braking. So many newer riders don't do this and it can make for some interesting corners.

Have fun. If you start to get a head ache, take a salt tablet and drink more water. If you start to cramp up, eat a banana or take a potassium tablet.

I'm pretty sure MMP is one of the only tracks that prohibits Engine Ice, but you could call them or check their website to be sure... That's freakin rad man, i'm totally jealous

Lol thanks svbmudssa.

Thats a good point stubby. Knowing me, I'd probly push myself and end up losing her in a corner... I know I was yesterday on the ride we did, got do drag some knee too. Im LOVING this tires!

Stubby, by startin off in the beg group, they will take us around the track and give us the option to hv someone follow us which will be good. So im sure we'll be using that to get us started.

As for the engine ice, google says its not track approved but i will call to see.

Actually most of the tracks don't allow it. It creates a slick spot, and its a pain in the ass to clean up - hence why they say no glycol. There are a few tracks that will allow it though. And normally they don't check, but you don't want to be the guy that ruins somebody elses day

Have fun Kevin, I'm jealous that you get to ride in December.

One other good piece of advice, get plenty of sleep the night before
