Something else to think about seems how you are going to ride a sponsored race bike on the street. The first time you run a red light, cut somebody off, piss somebody off your sponsor will be getting a phone call. Negative publicity is never good. Might as well be driving a company vehicle around.

Stubby is right. When I raced MX as a teenager I just started emailing random companies telling them what place I was getting at which race events & at one point I had about 8 sponsors giving me as much as 50% off cost.
Almost every part & every piece of gear I had in 08/09 was from a sponsor. I couldn't pay for $450 sidi's, I got 40% off just for asking motonation if they would sponsor me. Give it a try, it works well.

Most companies are given a certain number of spots to fill or dollar amount to use so just asking will sometimes get you a sponsorship of some level, they usually have different levels that give a different % off.

Hmmm seems like I made a post about this with a bunch of links and sources once... Maybe that was on the old ISB. I landed quite a few sponsors from loopd.com.

Yes I did sell my bike in october. That doen't mean I can't buy another one in the off season does it? And no I haven't posted my new bike yet. When it is ready I will post it. As of right now it is a work in progress. As for how I am getting sponsored, I am getting sponsored by business associates and friends that happen to like the idea of putting there name in as many places as possible.

Dumping bikes regularly I dropped my bike once in 3 years and thats regularly? The second time it fell I wasn't on it, the kickstand slipped as I was going into the store and it fell.
I didn't call dons sponsor small I was meaning his sponsor sticker wasn't any bigger than a bumper sticker.
And as for fake people and just trying to look cool, I am anything but fake, and I could give less of a shit about looking cool. But I guess someone that goes out of there way to help others is considered fake nowa days

.
Sponsors also have tax incentives too. From what I was told it is a tax write off as a business expense.

Anyways thanks to all of you that gave positive input, I appriciate it. Like I stated earlier the whole purpose of this thread was to get opinions on what to expect from sponsors, and how much give for how much take. Not to show off or put anyone down or any of the dramatic bs some of you have decided to throw in. Thank you Stubby, Lazy, W.D., CBRF2old, Ryan, and the rest of you that added positive info. Hopefully there is a little bit in here that others can take from to help them recieve sponsorship in what ever form of racing they want to do.
And thanks to the funny people too.

scott you arent the type of person to keep anything a secret. you have the biggest mouth i have ever heard. you were telling us about your super fast three wheeler before you even bought it. so as for your "bike(s)" i dont believe you and apparently most others on here dont either. even if you do get a sponsor you will still be a person i hope to line up against because you will be an easy target. you had beginners luck just like many others did on their first time. however it will take you a long ass time to get consistent just like anyone else. check out the top 10 at firebird every year. ever wonder why its always the same guys? it takes a lot of dedication and learning to crack into it on a regular basis. i dont think you have the ability to learn without talking. so sponsor yourself up, grab your emo scooter and come dethrone any of the regulars out there. then you may have the right to talk yourself up. ###t i have taken the championship 2 years in a row and it took a while to be consistent. this is the first time i have said anything about it on here, wonder why that is? i know how to be humble. you dont know how to shut your trap long enough to do anything else but talk about you.

I never said anything about dethroning anyone or being th best or any of that crap. And this thread wasn't about talking myself up, it was to get information. I don't plan on going out there and kicking everyones ass, I plan on going out there, having fun, and working on my sills so eventually I can work my way up the points ladder........Eventually.

OMG Scott this thread is hilllllarious.... But to the point .... If they are giving you free chit - you may not get money.... for the advertising "space".

GOOD for you regardless! I dont blame you for not telling us who - you want to keep that for yourself... you got to start somewhere and at least you have a goal and made some effort to achieve it! who cares if you win or lose or even race for that matter ..... for all we know, Jack in The Box is sponsoring you and you get free food just to ride around down town friday and saturday nights down town Congrats on the prospect, good luck with your goals, keep moving forward... you make the effort it will eventually fall into place.
