I Ride: 2007 R1

Any quadzilla's around?

I am looking at buying me a Quadzilla (LT500) and wanted to ask if anyone around here has one. I have found a few on-line but have never rode one.

I have rode the LT250 and it is cool, but if I am going to get a quad, I really like the LT500 looks and sounds.

So anyone around?

I Ride: As often as possible!

I dont own one but I have ridden a few of them. I have also ridden the lt250r's,trx250r's, and banshee's so for comparison sake I know the 2 stroke sport quads very well.

Here is my opinion of the 500. I dont like it because I cant stand the wierd flat chassis, and the engines IMO perform WAY less than they should as a 500cc 2 stroke.I have only ridden one that was really quick and it still would have a hell of a time keeping up with a really aggressively setup stock bore/stroke banshee in a strat line. I think the worst chassis of the group are the lt500 and the banshee's. The difference being that the banshee's at least have a bad ass engine that has rediculous amounts of performance potential.

This is how I would reccoment 2 strokes.

If you want a quad that handles amazing and is really light weight then the trx250r is the way to go. IMO they have the bast handling chassis dimension of ANY honda sport quad ever built. They are also cheap to buy and mod and can be built to be just as fast or faster than most lt500's that you will ever see believe it or not!

If you want a quad that you can make rediculous amounts of power out of and can be made to work very well in a strait line then I say get a banshee. They are not terrible, they just are not the type of machine that would be happy on an mx track...They are crazy engines (basically a RD350 engine minus the powervalves and with slightly different transmission gear ratios) that are capable of crazy numbers. They are like busa's because they have so many aftermarket go fast parts available. Stock they make around 35hp and I have seen 2 cylinder shees make over 200hp, 3 cylinder shees make over 300hp, and 4 cylinder shees make over 400hp at the ground!

I would put the lt500 in this catagory of a quad with an emphasis on engine performance over handling as well. However in my experiences most lt500s that run well still barely run as good as a stock 500cc dirtbike engine and they seem to have a burst of low to mid power and then just fall flat on their face. And they are hard to find parts for. IMO the only suzuki sport quad that is worth much is the ltr450 but its a 4 stroke and thats a whole different topic there.

Personally of the 2 stroke quads I would pick a trx250r because I enjoy a nice chassis much more than a really fast motor. I could build one with a 350 engine and be making 60+hp at the ground which in a sub 320lb machine will move out pretty darn good. If I was going to build a full on drag quad it would be a banshee for sure. I have seen plenty of banshees (FAR from stock of course)that will compete with quads that had big busa motors that were turboed and on spray making well over 500hp at the ground!

I think it would be really cool to build a full on mx level YFZ chassis with a 100hp 4mill cub banshee engine in it. Talk about a dune weapon... Or maybe if you really want to go the big bore siingel route a CR500 engine in a trx450r chassis could be really nice... hmm.

Sounds like you have a project.

You go ahead and make that YFZ quad, and put an R1 motor in it.

So no LT500's around? Oh well, I guess I will be the only one. Just like any bike or car, the owner can make it handle or perform better with a little work.

I should be able to pick up one of the LT500's I found and fix what I dont like.

Take care. See you around the board.

Thanks

Cool, I will be looking for a few months. That will give me time to find what I am after and let the weather get a bit nicer.
