I Ride: As often as possible! | I want to start racing my dirty bike!
Like the title says, I want to start racing my yz250 but I dont really know how to go about it. Basically I want to race as many different types of events that I can afford to race. I feel like I would be more competent doing the desert/worcs/gncc/harescramble type of racing but I would also like to do a few mx races here and there. I just enjoy riding soooo much that I feel it is time for me to actually get somewhat serious about it and try my hand at all different forms of dirt motorcycle racing. So, how do I get started? |

I'd say holler at WD and get hooked up with the outlaws. I know they do a bunch of racing through SIDRA.

For desert racing go here and check out the rule book and the various classes: http://www.sidraracing.org/SIDRA_Des...g/Welcome.html For MX, I'm sure you already know about PV and OMC. If you need more info let me know. Shortly I will have info up on ISB for hill climbs, desert racing, and other things for the dirty bikes. The first desert race is in Feb, at Oreana. You should come out with Buck and I next weekend for the PV race. And your might want to talk to Buck (Hellfire) as he wants to do the ISDE, and some scrambles in UT this year. |

I am for sure wanting to do the ISDE race as well as the SIDRA stuff this year. Thanks for the SIDRA link! I had been looking for that. I plan on running a few MX races at PV as well as clay's peak, but I dont know if I can do the OMC stuff since I dont have the time to do all the membership duties due to my lame azz school schedule this semester. I doubt I will be able to afford to do many out of state events, but I am always willing to keep an open mind about it. It will really just depend on my financial situation at the time of the event. I guess I need to get my SIDRA and AMA cards asap. How do you figure out what color backgrounds and what race number I will need to put on my bike for the SIDRA events? I would be going for the beginner C class. Is the PV race still on? I just checked their website and it said "this weekends race has been cancelled due to frozen terrain". And does PV require an AMA card? |

I want to race pretty much every form of dirtbike racing I can just to get used to the whole racing competetive atmosphere. Eventually I want to focus mostly on the MX side of things and then do just a few other type of races here and there just like what you are doing. I really dont feel like I am competent enough at the track stuff yet to want to do much mx racing YET. I definately want to spend as much time as possible on the tracks to improve my skills. I am still learning the whole jumping thing. I just need LOTS more seat time on the track and I will get it! ![]() I want to start riding alot again here very soon, so we will definately have to go riding. |

Some great advice and open minds so far, nice to see! As for your number for SIDRA, it would depend on which class you enter. C is where a lot of guys enter in to start, but to be honest, C class has got to be one of the more competitive because of all the different entries plus it is the largest class in SIDRA. Hit me up and we can get you the Application and Membership card instead of you mailing it in if you prefer. AMA card can be purchased at any of the AMA sanctioned races as well. The more different stuff you do, the more versatile you are, glad to see such enthusiasm! |

And. U don't need to be a member of OMC to race. if U want to practice @ that facility then U need a membership. Last I knew you didn't need ama card to race anything local. Except the National hare and hound this spring and maybe the Idaho city 100, It all depends on the insurance carried by the promoter. I would sugest as much hard core practice as possible if You want to survive the idaho city race. It's a 100 hile qualifier for the ISDE so they make it pretty tough. I'd come watch some MX races at OMC or PV, I might even think about helping in the pits ![]() It's good to see you getting into racing Idahoballer! Let us know when you're going racing. |

And as for the ISDE, hard core practice is the only kind of off road stuff that I really enjoy and it is what I am best at. I love tight technical single tracks with gnarly hill climbs and stuff. That is for sure my specialty as of right now! I have talked to quite a few people who have attempted the race and they all said it was super technical difficult stuff most of the time. It wouldnt surprise me if I didnt finish the race, but I am sure as hell more than willing to give it my all. I just want to try it and see what happens. But, having said that as soon as the snow melts up there I want to round up some people to go up to IC a bunch of times and explore all over the area to help prepare myself for the types of terrain that we will encounter during the race. | |

I Ride: As often as possible! | Sounds good man! I just feel like this is something that I might be able to do competitvely (at least at a local level) in the long run, so I want to try and find out. Riding dirtbikes is the only thing that I have ever been able to learn to do well enough to compete besides playing paintball (which is where my name came from) so I want to run with it while I am still young enough to heal up from injuries relatively quickly. It is a personl goal that I have wanted to fulfill ever since I was a little kid.

I Ride: As often as possible! | Yeah, I ended up paying $475 for them but only $100 of it came out of my pocket for them. My parents paid for the rest as a birthday gift so its not too bad of a deal I guess. I tried a pair of them on at carls one day and just had to have a pair of them. They seemed to be WAY more comfortable and protective than my worn out Astar tech 8's.

I Ride: As often as possible! | I was torn between the Gaerne SG-12's and the Sidi Crossfires but I couldnt find any place in town to try on the Sidi boots so I went with the Sg-12's. I really wanted the added protection of the dual hinged ankles that both boots offer. My Tech 8's were great boots for many years, but after a while they got too soft causing me to tweak my ankles up more than a few times which I dont like at all. These boots seem to be very stiff laterally to protect my ankles. I am excited to get them and get to try them out.
