I'd love to go!!! AHHH I want to ride on dirt in Silver City (love that place) Is it closed? Snow? Anyone been up there yet? We can get the kids on their dirt bikes, borrow a couple 4 wheelers and head up - it will make Lynn itch for another dirt bike again!

PV still has a lot of lakes, and the 4x4s really screwed that place up.

Jhed went to big willow last weekend, so maybe he can give an update on how it is.

Hemmingway is still in good shape, however they have the bobcat on the main trails, some parts good other parts not so much.

Blacks Creek - still not ready unless you like the snow/ice mixture when climbing.

I would like to kick the guy square in the nuts who is running the little dozer around in the owyhees ruining and closing all of the fun trails! F**K all the damn tree huggers, and there vegitation restoration plans!!! It is the desert after all, such beautiful sage brush covered terrain. lol

Big willow might be pretty muddy this weekend if we get rain tonight or tomorrow. I would say the only safe bet would be the owyhees still. Blacks creek (the danskins) would be very difficult right now I bet.

I have been thinking about hitting track practice at PVR one day this weekend but not sure. We skipped the race last weekend to go camping and ride some dune sand instead of desert whoopty-doo's! It was worth it.

You dont need anything other than a ride that can make it around the track until you get arm pump..

PVR is open 11-4. last time I was out it was $15 for practice ( 3 years ago )
http://www.pleasantvalleyraceway.com/

like anyother racing stay on your line and you will be fine...Ride for your comfort, and enjoy...

yup, like others mentioned the price for practice is $20, and the only things that they require are the typical protective gear.

And yes the weekend practice starts at 11:00AM, but I can guarantee that anyone who has not been on the track before that you do not need 4 hours or whatever to ride. I seriously doubt that you will still want to ride after like 2 hours max. A 2 hour practice session at the track is easily the same amount of a workout as say riding the desert for 4 or 5 hours is! I ride alot and I will be the first to admit that after like maybe 30 laps I am totally beat and ready to go home and sleep. lol

And will you die? I doubt it if you are smart about things. There will be other people on the track with you who are faster than you and clearing all of the jumps, so if you are not going to clear the jump then stay WAY far out on the edge of the jump so that the faster people dont hit you when they fly by you. IMO the only thing that you really need to worry about is keeping a safe space cushon from the other riders on and around the jumps. Getting landed on would really suck. The other part of the will I die equation is going to be completely up to your willingness to push your limits and your riding abilities.

PVR is a way fun track for beginners IMO since the jumps are not too big so the speeds are not too fast, and the track stays in pretty good shape. The corners get rutted out but the jump faces and landings stay nice and rut free!

I didn't expect to last more than 30 minutes on the track before being worn down, but starting at 11 means that no matter what, it's still going to be a 2 hour event with getting out there, getting ready to go, getting courage to get on the track, getting worn out won't take long, but then packing up and going back home. I have things that I need to do, one of them going to Mt home. I understand that if I go ride somewhere other than the track, I will still not be headed to Mtn home until about the same time, but at least I won't be spending $20 for less riding. I don't know, maybe I'll go out there. I'm a bit of a pu$$ when it comes to jumps, so I don't know if I should be out there even.

They actually have 2 tracks out there that you can ride. They have the main sx track and they also have another one that has much less intense jumps that they occasionally let the quads run on. I dont know where you live but the track is only like 15mins max from my house and I live in meridian, and the track is kindof on the way to mtn home anyways.

But hey if your not wanting to ride there then thats cool, I was just throwing the idea out there to see if anyone would be interested. I do think you would really enjoy it even if you were not hitting all of the jumps however. I guarantee that you will learn alot about both yourself and your bike in no time out there.

Everybody on a bike will be welcomed with open arms out there no matter how good you are at riding. Everybody out there was just starting out with the mx stuff too (including myself) at some point as well, so dont let the lack of track experience deter you. Its not a race so people wont be taking each other out and such. It is a bit intimidating for sure, I still get nervous every time I go out there, but I always leave the track after riding with a huge grin on my face and the desire to go back again asap. I also leave the track everytime with a newfound level of respect for the pro's who do that crap for a living as well as whole new level of respect for the capabilities of my bike. It doesnt surprise me too often out riding, but when I get it on to the track it always shows me just how crazy capable the thing really is.

Understandable, but I look at it like I can spend $20 in gas driving to someplace like Hemmingway or Big Willow or I can spend $20 at the track.

I Ride: As often as possible!

I ended up waking up at about noon so I ended up riding pickle butte for a couple hours with a couple friends instead of going to the track.

I bet big willow was way nice. I might have to make it out there sometime this week.
