If the head isn't cracked you should be able to have it re-sleeved and buy a new piston kit.

Check the compression first and see if there is any issues. If I remember correctly you should read between 100 - 105 lbs...Wait, I'll go look that up. BRB

There are several shops in town that specialize in head work. I know of one just on cole road, at Amity.
for 500 you could probably get a whole engine. through ebay.

Another possibility is new valves all together. If Loopy has done this many times he may know how to do a leak down test on it. A leak down test will determine whether or not you need new valves. If he can't run it over to Suicycle in Nampa on 3rd Ave. They should be able to do it pretty cheap. They now have the stuff for doing that bike since they did mine.

if it runs, the heads not broken. If it hates to start the intakes R too tight. You can go down to 120 shim to get .06 clearance, if tighter than that then need new valves or seats. Not a hard problem.

Hondas are notorious for their valves. I redid my valves recently because I was down to the smallest shim I could put in there from the Hot cams shim kit. Once those titanium valves start to go, you have to shim them sooner each time. I converted to stainless on the intakes. Not sure if I felt any power loss difference.

but that how much they are tho minus labor. better look online, ebay and have someone " a friend" that has the tools to help u out, thats pretty much how u can save. although, Andy at moto one is pretty competitive with his pricing and labor. just dont go to the stealerships like the big four in the boise area.

Agreed! Thats what I did. Sold my 08 YZ450 and replaced it with 2 2 smokers! No more damn valves or any of that chit to worry about any more. In fact both of my 2 stroke bike engines combined still dont have as many internal moving parts as that one 450 did inside. 2 strokers for life!

But four strokes are cool too, just in different ways. I would like to have a Honda XR650R! They are a kick ass enduro/desert bike once they have had a little suspension work done.
