Nice find man! Looks like a pretty clean machine! Good choice on getting the Yamaha too! There are reasons why Yamaha 4 stroke MX bikes are the most reliable, they have been around the longest. Yamaha basically invented both the big and small bore 4 stroke HiPo MX classes. I think I am going to be out riding this weekend but not sure yet. Depends on how much damn homework I get done today. I hate college! |

I do love me a Yamaha! I really wanted a 125 2 stroke but meh, this was hard to pass up. So I haven't ridden dirt since 2001. Where is the best place to go for the closest thing to track riding without going to one of the tracks? Little Gems, pickle butte, somewhere else? I'd like some whoops, jumps, and berms to practice on before I jump right on an actual track. |

big willow is a blast! but it also takes longer to get to than lil gem! I would say for close, there is still plenty of "track" like conditions out at pleasant valley, and you can go to pickle butte for fun too. Those would be the two close ones. When you get bored of those and you are ready for some real desert fun, then we can head out fossil creek or back towards silver city which is by far my favorite place to ride now.

Welp... I'm definitely much much slower than I once was! HAHA The worst part was how quickly I'd get arm pump. I could only ride hard for about 2-5 mins before I could barely hold on. The bike is really fast though. Faster than any 125 I've ridden.

so what is the latest? What is the outcome after the ride at PV on Saturday? Let me know when you are ready to tear into it, I got plenty of room in the garage now if you would like a hand.

I'm dropping it off at Moto One at lunch. I don't have the time or energy to put into a bike that didn't run for 2 hours! I think it's just the cam chain. I'm really hoping it's only the cam chain. Do they make higher tensile strength (than OEM) cam chains? I'd like to put a stronger one in so the next owner doesn't have this happen. I'm pretty sure I'm going to sell it and get an 05+ YZ 125. This is exactly why I didn't want a 4 stroke. There's an 05 yz 125 on craigslist right now so if this bike sells fast enough I'll be riding again in no time. |

And hey any chance you might want to part with those ENZO subtanks since you are getting rid of the bike?

I Ride: As often as possible! | Nope, its cuz it's a 250f. 13,000rpm is hard on those poor little engines. That is why the pro guys who race 250f's have to rebuild their bike before every event when the 450 guys can easily make the bike last for 3-4 events without a rebuild. I vote for the 2 smoker! NO valvetrain and power with every revolution for the win! |

Oh thanks for the info! I knew the 05 was about 11lbs lighter than the 04 & had a new motor and new forks, but I didn't know the 06 had differ even better forks! I thought about parting some things. I'd like to keep the hubs for my next YZ. However I'm not so sure the subtanks are still on the bike. I had no idea what they were & after I bought it I started looking up prices for the parts & I saw a pic of the subtanks which were mounted to the forks... well I don't see them on my forks... Are they sometimes relocated somewhere else?

I Ride: As often as possible! | Oh well, thats no biggie. I wanted to get the subtank setup to add yet another dimension of adjustability (on the SSS forks it basically manipulates the SSS effects as well as oil level effects, on all other forks minus the high end ohlins stuff it actually adds a speed sensitive damping characterstic and corresponding adjustments to the position sensive setup) to the setup I have now which is the full on works enzo suspension minus the super spendy fork leg coatings. The subtanks are a really sweet setup. The only downside to them s oer time they will start to accumulate fork oil in them which can effect the damping so every once and a while you have to tip them upside down to get the oil to flow back into the forks where it can be used. Eventually I will have them on both of my bikes!

I decided to have a friend at a dealer take a look to see what left over 06+ YZ 125's they can find. I imagine they will find plenty of 09's and some 08's. I was told that Yamaha will auction off bikes after a certain amount of time so I might find a 06 or 07 from that.

And as for finding the leftover YZ, good luck! Yamaha OWNS the jap 2 stroke market and because of that their 06+ 2 strokers are getting to be pretty hard to find and when you do find them people want a pretty penny for them. EVERY yamaha dealer I have talked to has sold their 2 stroke big bikes before they even showed up on the delivery truck. My 06 YZ250 is worth more used than a used 09 yz450f is right now... I do hope you find one though, you will really like the SSS suspension nce you get used to the bike. It is nothing short of amazing in production suspension terms, especially after a revalve/respring. The ONLY suspension out there that I think is better is the new TTX Ohlins stuff, but it is really spendy as all good non production ohlins stuff always is.

I've had the top end go out on me before & this didn't sound or feel the same. As long as the Cam's, cylinder, & head are OK, it shouldn't cost too much... Now to find an 06 YZ 125.

I Ride: CBR 954RR and what ever else I want | Best guess from experience with Dirt bikes is it's the bottom end. If the top end has problems it generally doesn't lock up the motor. It's easy to pull the top and take a look to verify if it's top or bottom. Are You locked in to having Andy work on it? |

No, I'm not locked into it. It's not a lack of ability to do the work. Just lack of desire to put any time or energy into it. Haha

This is why I have always said that the absolute last MX bike I would ever own is a 250f of any brand. They are all just far too unreliable IMO. 450's are plenty tough but 250f's are a waste of money unless you want to spend the money to keep one in tip top shape. I do think they make a great bike for the girlfriends that dont like the attitude of a 125 to ride though! I will keep a look out for a YZ125 like you want! |

I have found a few nice 06's in WA. But they might not be around by the time my bike is repaired and sold. http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/mcy/1683024850.html http://bellingham.craigslist.org/mcy/1692130943.html |

Those both look like really nice clean machines! I too REALLY would like to buy an 06+ YZ125 to add to my bike collection. I would love to have one to set up for MX/SX only, because honestly my 250 scares the crap out of me sometimes on the track. Out just riding the bike isnt too crazy but once you get it on the track it turns into an overjumping freak of nature!
