I Ride: As often as possible!

Big Willow CLOSED....

I was wondering if any of you have heard anything about this. Yesterday my cousin and some of his friends went out there early in the morning to go riding and just as soon as they got there some rancher guy showed up in the parking lot and demanded that they leave immediatly! He said it was all his private property and to get the hell off of his land immediatly. I guess the old guy had buried some spray painted tires and signs saying to keep out within this last week.

So its looking like BW is closed for real this time... LAME!!! That is/was one of my favorite places to ride around here.

A lot of that area is closed off for private, some of the ranchers let it go as long as people didn't mess too much with the gates. Big Willow riding area, where we usually go I did not think was private. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first and won't be the last time.

Where exactly did they go and get kicked out? The hillclimb area itself is all private. A lot of military training is also held out there where we go, so again I don't think you are talking the same spot, drills wouldn't be held on private land.?.?.?

I am talking big willow (on the gravel end of little willow road, past the big nasty hillclimb) and in the second main parking lot is where they were at.

The guy said, "This property is deeded to me by the BLM.".

Yes it's all private land and the guy has been upset for some time now. He was just waiting for Clay peak to open back up before he closed it. He was having problems with people cutting his fences and just down right holaganizm so he said piss on it and shut it down.
Clay peak is open and is free to ride on. You can call Marty at MG moto here in Ontario for more info 1-541-889-4000

Your welcome. Marty is on the board (I believe) for Clay peak and should have the most up to date info.

I had heard that some of the land was private but I didnt know all of it was private.

And I have been to clays peak before back when the track was actually up and running. I have not been back since the county took it back over though.

So does that mean someone is maintaining the main track?

It's not the state, it's the land owner now. He waited till clay peak was open to the public again and then did his thing!

Its not just this one thing that has led me to think this state is crappy, there are many issues I have been dealing with for a long time now that have me drawing that conclusion. This thing is just more fuel for the fire... I still say I am really beginning to strongly dislike this crappy state...

So, why didnt the guy do this along time ago? Clays peak has been open for more than the last couple years (even though it was a private deal prior to the county taking over...). That is just some BS excuse this dude came up with to make himself feel justified about his decisions.

Well, I guess that spells the end of all of the good mostly whoopty-doo free riding that BW provided. From here on out it sounds like we will get to enjoy miles of whoops...yay.. or not.

I know exactly what you mean, and I understand. Big Willow was fun! There are still a lot of places we can still go, for now.... We need to become more active in our trails and public lands, or we will lose those also. You already know of all the closures BLM has already one, and there is more to be closed when the budget allows. So get involved and be a voice to help keep riding open.
