shipmate does so and the Capt puts the red shirt on. The battle was long and lasted most of the day, but not a single person on the ship was hurt by night time they were victorious.
the ship mate asks the Capt, "you asked me to bring you your red shirt, why?"
Capt replies "this way, if I was shot, the crew would not see the blood and they would continue to fight".

Guy in the crowsnest yells "Captain, 20 enemy ships on the horizon!"
Capt says "Bring me my brown pants."
